AIMS The aim of this study was to investigate the role of proteases in Bacillus spp. of rhizobacteria in suppressing nematode populations and to understand their mechanism of action. METHODS AND RESULTS Rhizobacteria with nematicidal activity were isolated from soil samples of five root knot nematode-infested farms. Among these strains, nematotoxicities of Bacillus strains were intensively an...
A bacterium, designated M2-6, was isolated from Korean ginseng, Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer, roots after high-hydrostatic-pressure processing. On the basis of 16 rRNA gene phylogeny, the isolate was presumptively identified as a Bacillus sp. Here we report the draft genome sequence of Bacillus sp. strain M2-6 (= KACC 16563).
Bacillus sp. strain FJAT-18017 was isolated from a potato field in Xinjiang, China. This paper is the first report, to our knowledge, to demonstrate the fully sequenced and completely annotated genome of Bacillus sp. FJAT-18017. The genome size is 5,265,521 bp. The average G+C content was 42.42%.
Here, we report the 4.0-Mbp draft genome of an obligate halophile, Bacillus sp. strain NSP22.2, isolated from a seasonal salt marsh of the Great Rann of Kutch, India. To understand the mechanism(s) of obligate halophilism and to isolate the relevant gene(s), the genome of Bacillus sp. NSP22.2 was sequenced.
Azoreductases have been characterized as enzymes that can decolorize azo dyes by reducing azo groups. In this study, genes encoding proteins having homology with the azoreductase gene of Bacillus sp. OY1-2 were obtained from Bacillus subtilis ATCC6633, B. subtilis ISW1214, and Geobacillus stearotherophilus IFO13737 by polymerase chain reaction. All three genes encoded proteins with 174 amino ac...
Motility of the alkalophilic Bacillus sp. C-125, a flagellate bacterium, was demonstrated to be Na(+)- and pH-dependent. Flagellin protein from this strain was purified to homogeneity and the N-terminal sequence determined. Using the hag gene of Bacillus subtilis as a probe, the hag gene of Bacillus sp. C-125 was identified and cloned into Escherichia coli. Sequencing of this hag gene revealed ...
The primary habitat for Bacillus sp. is the soil. In this environment, they remain inactive until a suitable substrate (food source) becomes available. Usually these substrates include large molecules from the remains of plants and animals. The large molecules, like proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates are suitable substrate for Bacillus sp. because these strains excrete enzymes which break thes...
Sewage sludge was evaluated as high available and low cost microbial oils feedstock for biodiesel production. Samples from four different wastewater treatment plants from La Araucanía Region in Southern Chile presented total lipids content ranging between 7.7 and 12.6%, being Vilcún sewage sludge that with the highest transesterifiable lipids content of about 50% of the total extracted lipids. ...
A chitosanase produced constitutively by Bacillus sp. MET 1299 was purified by SP-Sephadex column chromatography. The molecular weight was estimated to be 52 kDa by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Optimal enzyme activity was observed at a pH of 5.5 and temperature of 60 degrees C. The purified chitosanase showed high activity on 90% deacetylated colloidal c...
