We have investigated the behavior of groundto bound excited-state electronic transitions of Se and Te donors in AlSb as a function of hydrostatic pressure. Using broadband far-infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, we observe qualitatively different behaviors of the electronic transition energies of the two donors. While the pressure derivative of the Te transition energy is small and constan...

Avoided crossings are common in the quasienergy spectra of strongly driven nonlinear quantum wells. In this paper we examine the sinusoidally driven particle in a square potential well to show that avoided crossings can alter the structure of Floquet states in this system. Two types of avoided crossings are identi ed: one type leads only to temporary changes (as a function of driving eld streng...
We performed first-principles calculations to investigate the energetic, electronic and optical properties of bundled armchair and zigzag carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The nanotubes are assumed to be aligned in a hexagonal closed-packed array in the bundle. The total energy and electronic band structure show stronger dependence on the orientation of the tube for the (n, n) and (n, 0) bundles if n = ...
The primary all-trans --> 13-cis photoisomerization of retinal in bacteriorhodopsin has been investigated by means of quantum chemical and combined classical/quantum mechanical simulations employing the density matrix evolution method. Ab initio calculations on an analog of a protonated Schiff base of retinal in vacuo reveal two excited states S1 and S2, the potential surfaces of which intersec...
We present spectroscopic observation of an exceptional point or the transition point between mode crossing and avoided mode crossing of neighboring quasieigenmodes in a chaotic optical microcavity of a large size parameter. The transition to the avoided mode crossing was impeded until the degree of deformation exceeded a threshold deformation owing to the system's openness also enhanced by the ...
The electronic spectroscopy of oxygen atoms trapped in solid xenon are reported. Excitation of the solid between 220 and 260 nm leads to two main emissions centered at 3.35 and 1.65 eV, both of which arise from the same upper state. The excitations are assigned to chargetransfer absorptions in interstitial Oh sites; the emitting state, which has a lifetime of 227 ns, is assigned to Xe+O(‘xc+). ...
Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations are measured in wide parabolic quantum wells with 2 subbands occupied in tilted magnetic field. Experiments reveal anticrossing of the Landau level (LL) belonging to lowest subband and last LL belonging to the second subband. Such anticrossing occurs due to decrease of the energy of the LL with tilt angle Q: This observation is supported by the measurements of the...
We devise a method for probing resonances of macroscopic matter waves in shaken optical lattices by monitoring their response to slow parameter changes, and show that such resonances can be disabled by particular choices of the driving amplitude. The theoretical analysis of this scheme reveals far-reaching analogies between dressed atoms and time periodically forced matter waves.
