Hydraulic fracturing is a method of oil and gas extraction from shale in which substantial volumes of water return to the surface containing chemicals and microorganisms. This paper begins to address the microbial composition and aqueous chemistry and the potential for intrinsic and enhanced bioremediation of these waters. The waters from a gas and oil shale in the Marcellus and Bakken regions,...

The present study was aimed at analysis of bioactive constituents of leaves from Abutilon indicum. The ethyl acetate extract of the leaves were subjected to Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Gas chromatographymass spectroscopic (GCMS) analysis. GC-MS analysis of plant extract was performed using a Perkin-Elmer GC Clarus 500 system and Interpretation on mass spectrum GC-MS was ...

This work compares two electrode materials used to mineralize phenol contained in waste waters. Two disks covered with either boron doped diamond (BDD) or PbO2 were used as anodes in a one compartment flow cell under the same hydrodynamic conditions. Efficiencies of galvanostatic electrolyses are compared on the basis of measurements of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD...

Seasonal variations and sources of ambient volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were conducted at the county rural sites in a mountain area southeastern China. The results showed that pattern VOC concentrations was dominated by oxygenated VOCs (37.6%) alkanes (25.8%), followed halocarbons (16.8%), alkenes (11.9%), aromatics (6.87%), alkynes (1.04%). Based on OH radical loss rate (LOH) ozone format...

Microwave-assisted pyrolysis of seaweed biomass was conducted using a microwave system. The product yields were determined and the components bio-oil analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Results showed that as temperature increased from 400 °C to 600 °C, yield bio-char decreased. However, rose firstly then reduced. maximal 18.4 wt.% when 500 °C. obtained is mixture very com...

The indoor environment in four beauty salons located in Athens (Greece) was examined in order to investigate the occupational health exposure of cosmetologists to various chemical products typically used in their work. Chemical substances chosen for investigation were volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, ozone and carbon dioxide. Total VOCs levels measured showed significant variati...

Molecular level insight into the interaction between volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and aerosols is crucial for improvement of atmospheric chemistry models. In this paper, the interaction between adsorbed toluene, one of the most significant VOCs in the urban atmosphere, and the aqueous surface of aerosols was studied by means of combined molecular dynamics simulations and ab initio quantum ...

The β-sheet structure associated with chlorinated aromatics (d(Cl···Cl)≈ 4.0 Å) has been implemented to drive formation of π-stacked structures of dithiadiazolyl radicals. Both title compounds exhibit an increase in paramagnetism above 150 K but solid-state EPR studies indicate that the origin of the paramagnetism in these two systems is different.

o-Alkynylarenenitriles when heated with Pd(OAc)2/H2O/(±)-CSA in DMSO undergo simultaneous alkyne oxidation and nitrile hydration to give 3-aryl-3-hydroxy-2,3-dihydroazanaphthoquinones. Upon treatment with (±)-CSA, these compounds form 3-arylazanaphthoquinones in situ, which add to electron-rich aromatics and terminal alkene/alkyne to afford 3,3-disubstituted-2,3-dihydroazanaphthoquinones.

Nitration of three regioisomers of bromo-fluorobenzaldehyde proceeds regioselectively, notably with H2SO4/HNO3 at 0 °C. The thereby synthesized tetrasubstituted aromatics, endowed with orthogonal substituents, can be elaborated via Pd-catalysed coupling, reduction and reductive amination reactions. As a test-case, these compounds were converted into EGFR inhibitors related to Gefitinib, whose a...
