The Weather Research and Forecasting model is used to perform large-eddy simulations of thermally driven cross-basin winds in idealized, closed basins. A spatially and temporally varying heat flux is prescribed at the surface as a function of slope inclination and orientation to produce a horizontal temperature gradient across the basin. The thermal asymmetry leads to the formation of a closed ...

Flood is one of the natural hazards that its frequent occurrence has increased in the recent years and the damages of it, had affected apart of country in every year. Prioritization of sub basins has an important effect in watershed management. The purpose of prioritization of sub basins is offer a pattern for control and decrease flood hazards and evaluating the role of each sub basin in peak ...

The topographic threshold is based on the power relationship between area and slope widely applied in gully-erosion research; however, this requires further testing. Accordingly, Alamarvdasht Lamerd Fadagh Larestan regions Fars Province, Iran, were selected as case studies to explore for gullies. Thirty active gullies identified each study during field surveys, data describing land use cover, d...

A case study of the Sacramento Basin is undertaken to examine problems of planning for the impacts of climate change on water resources utilizing output from general circulation climate models. This work provides a sensitivity analysis linking climate, stream ̄ow, and planning decisions. Water resource planners want reliable time series of stream ̄ow in the basin. Sacramento basin hydrological mo...

In this paper the spectrum of barotropic basin modes of the Argentine Basin is shown to be connected to the classical Rossby basin modes of a flat-bottom (constant depth), rectangular basin. First, the spectrum of basin modes is calculated for the Argentine Basin, by performing a normal-mode analysis of the barotropic shallow-water equations. Then a homotopy transformation is performed that gra...

In this paper we propose a numerical method to calculate basin bifurcation sets in a parameter space. It is known that the basin bifurcations always result from the contact of a basin boundary with the critical curve segment. A numerical example for a two-dimensional quadratic noninvertible map is illustrated and new results of basin bifurcations are shown.

To constrain the timing of rifting in the western, eastern, and northern parts of the Alboran Sea basin, seismic reflectors, corresponding to biostratigraphic boundaries and unconformities from the Miocene to Recent, are correlated using synthetic seismograms. Regions of adjacent coeval compression and extension are found in the Alboran Sea basin. Normal faulting continues in parts of the easte...

drought is transient phenomenon , slow , repetitive and integral part of the climate of each region. drought begins with a substantial reduction in precipitation over the long-term average rainfall and over time, reduced soil moisture and surface and ground water resources will continue to decrease. this phenomenon is the most important in bakhtegan basin because of its importance in strategic ...

Potentially important contributors to the topography and tectonics of multi-ring impact basins are the thermal contraction and thermal stress that accompany the loss of heat emplaced during basin formation. Heat converted from impact kinetic energy and contributed from the uplift of isotherms during cavity collapse are important components in the energy budget of a newly-formed basin. That the ...

The operational cycle of a storm water quality control basin can be divided into the waiting period between events and the filling and draining period during an event. In this study, an inherent overflow risk is defined as the probability of having a large event exceed the basin storage capacity. Such a probability is prescribed by the basin storage capacity and the local distribution of rainfa...
