A Raster-based Spatiotemporal Hierarchical Data Model (RSHDM) was designed for the nature of marine phenomena or marine fishery management. Based on the data model a spatiotemporal data warehouse for marine fishery management has been developed. The practice shows that the RSHDM can provide aggregation data for the fishery management on each level.

Deterministic population balance models including aggregation phenomena with more than two internal coordinates and without reduction to e.g. moments are to the best of the authors knowledge not published in literature so far. The problem of such models is the high computational demand and long simulation times which can easily reach the duration of weeks. Here the authors present a 3-dimension...

This paper reports on the development of a microfluidic platform to study mass transport behaviour of blood cells at micro-scale stenosis where local strain-rate micro-gradients trigger platelet aggregation. We present the design, fabrication and blood testing of a microfluidic device that incorporates symmetric or asymmetric flow focusing using a single pressure driver to study the hemodynamic...

This paper reports on an investigation of mass transport of blood cells at micro-scale stenosis where local strain-rate micro-gradients trigger platelet aggregation. Using a microfluidic flow focusing platform we investigate the blood flow streams that principally contribute to platelet aggregation under shear micro-gradient conditions. We demonstrate that relatively thin surface streams locate...

Information aggregation is one of the key issues in development of intelligent systems. Although fuzzy set theory provides a host of attractive aggregation operators for integrating the membership values representing uncertain information, the results do not always follow the modeled real phenomena. Researches on this area have shown that better results can be reached by using various aggregati...

A discrete model for computer simulations of the clustering dynamics of social amoebae is presented. This model incorporates the wavelike propagation of extracellular signaling of 30–50-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), the sporadic firing of cells at early stage of aggregation, the signal relaying as a response to stimulus, and the inertia and purposeful random walk of the cell movement. ...

Suppose n Bayesian agents need to make a decision as a group. The group as a whole is also supposed to be a Bayesian agent whose probabilities and utilities are derived or aggregated in reasonable ways from the probabilities and utilities of the group members. The aggregation could be ex ante, i.e., in terms of expected utilities, or it could be ex post, i.e., in terms of utilities only, or in ...

In the last few years, hydrostatic pressure has been extensively used in the study of both protein folding and misfolding/aggregation. Compared to other chemical or physical denaturing agents, a unique feature of pressure is its ability to induce subtle changes in protein conformation, which allow the stabilization of partially folded intermediate states that are usually not significantly popul...

NMR diffusometry has been gaining wide popularity in various areas of applied chemistry for investigating diffusion and complexation processes in solid and aqueous phases. To date, the application of this method to study aggregation phenomena proceeding beyond the dimer stage of assembly has been restricted by the need for a priori knowledge of the aggregates' shape, commonly difficult to know ...

In intelligent systems where fuzzy rule base and reasoning mechanism are applied, like fuzzy control systems, decision support and expert systems, one of the key issues is the problem of aggregation of information represented by membership functions. Since the pioneering work of Prof. Lotfi Zadeh [21] a great number of fuzzy connectives, aggregation operators have been introduced. The results o...
