The genus Lacinutrix, which belongs to the family Flavobacteriaceae, consists of seven bacterial species that were mainly isolated from marine life and sediments. As most bacteria in the family Flavobacteriaceae favor aerobic conditions, the seven bacterial species in the genus Lacinutrix also showed aerobic growth. We selected four monophyletic bacterial species living in a polar environment. ...

Steroidal hormones are constantly released into the environment by man-made and natural sources. The goal of this study was to examine the persistence and fate of 17beta-estradiol and testosterone, the two primary natural sex hormones. Incubation experiments were conducted under aerobic and anaerobic conditions using [4-(14)C]-radiolabeled 17beta-estradiol and testosterone. The results indicate...

Background & objectives: Caffeine can affect many physiological functions of the body. The aim of this study was to investigate the response of aerobic function, blood pressure and some immune system factors of trained men to acute caffeine consumption in dehydrated condition and warm and humid environment. Methods: Thirty male athletes with a mean age of 26.6±3.9 years in dehydrated conditions...

Chlorinated herbicides (e.g. s-triazines) and polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs) are persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that are widely distributed in the environment. s-Triazine herbicides are used in agriculture and forestry in diverse regions of the world. PCBs were produced worldwide for industrial applications, and an important amount of these compounds have been released into the environment. P...

Background and Objectives: Breast cancer is a major health concern in women, but it seems that exercise plays an important role in controlling it. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to examine the effects of six weeks of aerobic training on the tumor volume and oncostatin-M serum level in mice with breast cancer. Materials and Methods: This research was an experimental...

Citromicrobium bathyomarinum is a bacteriochlorophyll a-containing aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacterium. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of C. bathyomarinum JL354, which was the first C. bathyomarinum strain isolated from a euphotic marine environment. The JL354 genome sequence reveals, for the first time, the coexistence of two different photosynthetic operons in a single strain.

Membrane fouling problem is one of the most crucial issues which restricts the development of MBR and is, therefore, the prime research topic for many researchers worldwide. Anaerobic MBRs offer interesting perspectives as a potential solution for the treatment of wastewaters under extreme conditions, e.g. high temperature and/or high salt content, However, the research on membrane fouling of A...

There is now a large body of evidence demonstrating the influence of the in utero environment on postnatal growth. Regular aerobic exercise during pregnancy elicits maternal and fetal adaptations that seem specific to the period of gestation in which training is initiated and maintained. This review considers the evidence for both positive and negative long-term health outcomes for offspring.
