Fractional pel motion compensation generally improves coding efficiency due to more precise motion accuracy and low path filtering effect in generating image at fractional pel positions. In H.264, quarter pel motion compensation is applied, where image at half pel position is generated by 6 tap Wiener filter. And the adaptive interpolation filter technique, which adaptively changes filter chara...

A noise subspace projection (NSP) approach to extraction and subpixel detection of target signatures in an unknown background is presented. The proposed NSP approach is derived from a recently developed subspace orthogonal projection (OSP) method and can be shown to be approximated by an adaptive filter with the optimal weight given by the Wiener–Hopf equation. As a result, the operator resulti...

This paper describes two novel Wiener-based approaches for frame-to-frame image registration. The first approach, Local Wiener Registration, incorporates the crosscorrelation between the two frames to determine the Wiener filter at each pixel location in order to predict the second frame from the first frame. The second approach, Block Wiener Registration, divides the image in nonoverlapping bl...

Using a non-uniformly distributed aperture radar system for forming a SAR image will result in data correlations between the SAR image resolution cells. Thus, this requires that a more robust filter than the Matched Filter, i.e. the MMSE or Wiener Filter to be used in the receiver processing. As the Wiener Filter involves a computationally expensive matrix inverse operation, it can be avoided b...

G. Charmaine Gilbreath, MEMBER SPIE Naval Research Laboratory Washington, D.C. 20375 Abstract. A new method is presented to perform bit synchronization and detection of binary nonreturn-to-zero NRZ data from a free-space optical FSO communication link. Based on the wavelet transformation, a new bandpass filter is developed and implemented. It is shown that the Haar wavelet is an excellent choic...

We present a method to find the mean square estimate of the original image using a Gauss-Markov image model and a known point spread function. The performance of the edge adaptive technique compares favorably to the Wiener filter on synthetic and real images with mild linear (motion) blur and additive white Gaussian noise.

We derive the transmit Wiener filter for DS-CDMA systems which depends upon the noise power at the receivers. We show that the transmit Wiener filter converges to the transmit matched filter and the transmit zero-forcing filter for low and high signal-to-noiseratio, respectively. Simulation results show the superiority of the transmit Wiener filter compared to the other two transmit filters. Mo...

In all books and papers on adaptive filtering, the input autocorrelation matrix Rxx is always considered positive definite and hence the theoretical Wiener–Hopf normal equations (Rxxh 1⁄4 rxd) have a unique solution h 1⁄4 hopt (‘‘there is only a single global optimum’’, [B. Widrow, S. Stearns, Adaptive Signal Processing, Prentice-Hall, 1985, p. 21]) due to the invertibility of Rxx (i.e., it is ...

A Median filter is used for eliminating Salt & Pepper Impulse noise and Wiener filter is used for eliminating Gaussian noise. This paper presents a hybrid filter for removal of both types of noises. Two Hybrid filters are presented for eliminating Salt and Pepper noise and Gaussian noise simultaneously from a noisy image. The first filter is a combination of a variant of Median filter and Wiene...
