The goals of the present investigation were to identify the prevalence of acetabular dome retroversion in a mixed race population, to quantify the average amount of cross-over ratio, and to determine normative values. The presence of the cross-over sign and its overlap ratio was assessed for 2,925 hips meeting strict radiographic criteria of the pelvic radiograph. Fifty-two percent of the hips ...
In 2003, Ganz et al. described anterior femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) as an under recognized cause of early hip osteoarthritis. Impingement is a purely mechanical hip disorder defined as abnormal contact between skeletal prominence of the acetabula rim or femoral head-neck junction that leads to painful, periarticular joint. If untreated, FAI can lead to endstage osteoarthritis of the hip ...
Despite the frequency of labral tears in symptomatic developmental dysplasia of the hip, no consensus exists regarding the treatment of coexisting dysplasia of the hip and tearing of the acetabular labrum. The purpose of this prospective, MR arthrography (MRA) based 2-year follow-up study was to identify risk factors predicting the need for a hip arthroscopy (HA) after periacetabular osteotomy ...
BackgroundAcetabular retroversion results in reduced range of motion, and is thought to contribute femoroacetabular impingement. Severe can be corrected with a periacetabular osteotomy, which technically demanding intervention. In this study, we investigated whether increasing femoral antetorsion potential alternative restore the motion how approach would affect hip joint loading.MethodsSix dif...
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the preoperative radiographs with cases of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) leading to rotational acetabular osteotomy (RAO) or curved peri-acetabular osteotomy (CPO), and examine the frequency of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) related bone morphology in the acetabulum and femoral head-neck junction. Twenty-four hips with hip dyaplasia who u...
We measured torsion of the humeral head in 38 patients (40 shoulders) with recurrent anterior dislocation of the shoulder (RADS) and in 40 normal subjects. We found a reduced mean retroversion in the patients with RADS at 4.3 +/- 10.56 degrees (17 degrees anteversion to 32 degrees retroversion) as compared with 16.1 +/- 11.07 degrees in the control group (0 degrees to 49 degrees) (p = 0.0001). ...
