Experiments will soon start taking data at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) with high expectations for discovery of new physics phenomena. Indeed, the LHC’s unprecedented center-of-mass energy will allow the experiments to probe an energy regime where the standard model is known to break down. In this article, the experiments’ capability to observe new resonances in various channels is reviewed.
A major focus at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be Higgs boson studies and it would be an interesting prospect to simultaneously probe for physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) in the Higgs signals. In this work we show as to what extent, the effects of Universal Extra Dimension (UED) can be isolated at the LHC through the Higgs signals. By doing a detailed study of the different uncerta...
Discovering the Higgs boson is one of the primary goals of both the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The present status of the Higgs search is reviewed and future prospects for discovery at the Tevatron and LHC are considered. This talk focuses primarily on the Higgs boson of the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension. Theoretical expectations for the Higgs boson a...
The processes p p (−) → Zγ + X → llγ + X (l = e, μ) and p p (−) → Zγ + X → ν̄νγ +X are calculated to O(αs) for general ZZγ and Zγγ couplings. The impact of O(αs) QCD corrections on the observability of ZZγ and Zγγ couplings in Zγ production at the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is discussed. Typeset using REVTEX
The prospects for electroweak measurements at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are discussed. In addition to highluminosity results, special emphasis is placed on early start-up measurements with a total luminosity ranging from 10/pb to 100/pb, using the general-purpose detectors ATLAS and CMS and their initially larger calibration and alignment uncertainties. Topics discussed here include inclu...
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) proposed at CERN will be the ultimate source of B-mesons. With the large number of B-mesons expected at LHC, a real precision test of CP violation in B-meson decays will become possible. There are already several efforts made to explore this possibility and a summary of those activities is presented. Plenary talk given at 1994 International Workshop on B Physics ...
Spurred by the question of the maximum allowable energy for the operation of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), we have progressed in the understanding of the thermo-electric behavior of the 13 kA superconducting bus bars interconnecting its main magnets. A deep insight of the underlying mechanisms is required to ensure the protection of the accelerator against undesired effects of resistive tran...
We point out that interesting signals of the non-strongly interacting sector of the supersymmetric standard model arise from the production of charginos and neutralinos via vector boson fusion (VBF) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In particular, if R-parity is violated, the hadronically quiet signals of charginos and neutralinos through direct production get considerably suppressed. We show...
We perform a detailed analyses of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) capability to discover first generation vector leptoquarks through their pair production. We study the leptoquark signals and backgrounds that give rise to final states containing a pair e+e− and jets. Our results show that the LHC will be able to discover vector leptoquarks with masses up to 1.8–2.3 TeV depending on their c...
