BACKGROUND Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an important nosocomial pathogen that exhibits multiple drug resistance with increasing frequency, especially to carbapenems making patient treatment difficult. Carbapenem-resistance may be caused by porin gene mutations, active drug efflux, and carbapenemase production. This study evaluated the incidence of genes responsible for carbapenemase production in ...

results the most effective agent against the studied isolates was colistin. by cddt, it was found that among 278 imipenem resistant p. aeruginosa strains, 178(64.02%) were mbl producers. the blaimp-1 and blavim-1 genes were detected in 30(16.8%) and 52(29.2%) of p. aeruginosa isolates, respectively. result of 187 imipenem resistance a. baumannii strains showed that 85(45.4%) were mbl producers....

background & objectives: pseudomonas aeruginosais one of the most important causes of nosocomial infections particularly in immunodeficient patients. several antibiotics such as betalactams, aminoglycosides and quinolones are used for the treatment of infections caused by this organism, but the prevalence of multidrug resistant strains has been reported frequently. beta lactamase production is ...

Background and purpose: The prevalence of antibiotic resistant P. aeruginosa strains became a major problem in treatment of burn patients. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of blaIMP, blaVIM and oprD genes among P. aeruginosa isolated from hospitalized burn patients in Tehran Shahid Motahari Hospital, Iran. Materials and methods: This descriptive study was performed on P...

Background: Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii strains are one of the most severe factors in hospital infection worldwide, which beta-lactamase enzyme is main resistance mechanisms. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate presence carbapenem-resistant genes and determine antibiotic patterns clinical isolates A. from patients hospitalized Shahid Kamyab Hospital, Mashhad, Iran. In 2004 and 2005, 5 metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL)-positive Acinetobacter baumannii isolates were found in 2 Greek hospitals. Isolates were unrelated and carried blaVIM-1 in a class 1 integron; bla(OXA-51-) and bla(OXA-58-like) carbapenemase genes were also detected. VIM-1 MBL in Acinetobacter spp. causes concern, given the increasing resistance of this species.

www.ums.ac.uk PCR for the blaVIM carbapenemase gene whilst the E. cloacae was positive for blaNDM-1. On day 50, his antibiotics were changed from colistin and tigecycline to intravenous colistin, aztreonam and fosfomycin on the basis of susceptibility results from ARMRL (Table 1). On day 92, he was discharged following completion of 6 weeks of antibiotic therapy for osteomyelitis and made a ful...

Introduction: Carbapenems are one of the latest drugs for treatment of threatening infections of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Resistance to these antibiotics is sometimes caused by carbapnmase class B, such as VIM metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) that is growing in the communities. The aim of this study was to detect the of metallo-beta-lactamase blaVIM-1 gene among clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeru...
