We sequenced the complete genome of the highly virulent Aeromonas schubertii strain WL1483, which was isolated from diseased snakehead fish (Channa argus) in China. The full genome sequence of A. schubertii WL1483 is 4,400,034 bp, which encodes 4,376 proteins and contains 195 predicted RNA genes.

Restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis after PCR amplification (RFLP-PCR) of the 16S rRNA gene has been previously proposed as a rapid method to identify Aeromonas species. In the present study, the precision of RFLP-PCR was evaluated with 62 Aeromonas reference strains. The analysis revealed that Aeromonas veronii biovar sobria strains produce various patterns, possibly leading to i...

Members of the genus Aeromonas are important enteropathogens. Commercial identification systems are often unable to correctly identify Aeromonas strains and misidentification as Vibrio spp. is common. A digoxigenin-DNA probe based on a 237 bp of the glycerophospholipid-cholesterol acyltransferase gene has been tested in a colony hybridization assay. The probe hybridized with all Aeromonas speci...

Aeromonas species are ubiquitous bacteria in terrestrial and aquatic milieus. They are becoming renowned as enteric pathogens of serious public health concern as they acquire a number of virulence determinants that are linked with human diseases, such as gastroenteritis, soft-tissue, muscle infections, septicemia, and skin diseases. Proper sanitary procedures are essential in the prevention of ...

Infection with Aeromonas species has been reported to occur in neutropenic patients. Necrotizing fasciitis caused by Aeromonas species is uncommon but potentially life-threatening. We herein describe three cases of fulminant necrotizing fasciitis caused by Aeromonas sobria in neutropenic patients. These cases shared many clinical characteristics, including shock, coagulopathy, multiple organ fa...

Background. The role of Aeromonas species (sp.) in bacteremia in Japanese patients with liver cirrhosis is poorly understood. Aim. To establish the importance of Aeromonas sp. as a cause of bacteremia in patients with liver cirrhosis. Methods. Clinical and serological features and short-term prognosis were retrospectively investigated and compared in Japanese patients with bacteremia due to Aer...

The aim of the investigation was to describe the incidence of Aeromonas bacteremia in a city with a population of about 1.87 million inhabitants, located in southern Taiwan, between 2008 and 2010. Such data were compared with the incidences of Vibrio and Salmonella bacteremia in the same period and the incidence of Aeromonas bacteremia in other countries in the literature. The data revealed the...

Aeromonas hydrophila is a low-virulence gram-negative bacillus. It has never been reported as a pathogen of non-traumatic acute osteomyelitis in a cirrhotic patient. Herein, we reported on a case of decompensated liver cirrhosis with Aeromonas hydrophila infection presenting as acute gastroenteritis and non-traumatic acute osteomyelitis. It has been shown that Aeromonas bacteremia usually affec...

Amikacin is a first-line treatment for Aeromonas infection due to high efficacy. There are few reports of aminoglycoside-resistant Aeromonas spp. We report a soft tissue infection containing multiple pathogens, including a strain of Aeromonas hydrophila resistant to amikacin, tobramycin, and multiple cephalosporins.

Phenotypic and genetic studies were performed on some atypical aeromonas strains of uncertain taxonomic position. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that these strains represent a hitherto unknown genetic line within the genus Aeromonas, for which the name Aeromonas allosaccharophila sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CECT 4199.
