Abstract I review the role and meaning of Anthropic Principle, particularly in its relevance to particle physics as that subject evolves. This is neither a technical paper nor resource letter, but rather an easy introduction.
Models of open inflation with a variable density parameter Ω provide the most natural way to reconcile an open universe with inflation. The use of anthropic principle is essential to derive observational predictions of such models. I discuss how this principle can be used in a quantitative way to determine the most probable value of Ω. I also comment on recent work by Hawking and Turok on quant...

QCD sheds considerable light on several of the most basic features of the natural world, including the origin of mass, the feebleness of gravity, the extent to which the properties of matter can be determined conceptually, the possible utility of the anthropic principle, and the metatheoretic notions of effectiveness and computability. I discuss these applications here.
We note that there is an exception to the general arguments that no falsifiable predictions can be made, on the basis of of presently available data, by applying the weak anthropic principle (WAP) to the landscape of string theory. If there are infinitely more vacua in the landscape for one sign of a parameter than the other, within an anthropicaly allowed range, then under very weak assumption...
We continue the analysis of quantum-like description of market phenomena and economics. We show that it is possible to define a risk inclination operator acting in some Hilbert space that has a lot of common with quantum description of the harmonic oscillator. The approach has roots in the recently developed quantum game theory and quantum computing. A quantum anthropic principle is formulated ...
About the Author The Revd Dr John Polkinghorne KBE FRS worked in theoretical elementary particle physics for 25 years and was previously Professor of Mathematical Physics at Cambridge University and then President of Queens’ College, Cambridge. Dr Polkinghorne was the Founding President of the International Society for Science and Religion (2002-2004) and is the author of numerous books on scie...
The influence of recent detections of a finite vacuum energy (”cosmological constant”) on our formulation of anthropic conjectures, particularly the so-called Final Anthropic Principle is investigated. It is shown that non-zero vacuum energy implies the onset of a quasiexponential expansion of our causally connected domain (”the universe”) at some point in the future, a stage similar to the inf...
