The data reported in this article presents actual installation costs and performance data for a selection of residential Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) systems in Melbourne, Australia. The installation cost data includes five main cost components: ground loop installation, head pipe installation, heat pump, mechanical room installation, and fittings. The performance data presented here includes...

Unusual peaks in turbidity were detected in two branches of the Whittard Canyon in June 2013. Enhanced nepheloid layers (ENLs) were defined as layers with concentrations of suspended particulate matter exceeding those of nepheloid layers typically observed in a given region. Here, ENLs had peaks in turbidity and elevated suspended particulate matter concentrations exceeding ~1 mg L(-1) with the...

Modeling and Wrench feasible workspace analysis of a spatial cable suspended robots is presented. A six-cable spatial cable robot is used the same as Stewart robots. Due to slow motion of the robot we suppose the motion as pseudostatic and kinetostatic modeling is performed. Various workspaces are defined and the results of simulation are presented on the basis of various workspaces and app...

We have mapped the internal pump intensity distribution by monitoring the spontaneous emission intensity along the cleaved edge of an optically pumped vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) using the high spatial resolution and shallow depth of field provided by near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) [1]. The spontaneous emission of quantum wells placed throughout the distributed...

Fugitive dust emission from limestone extraction areas is a significant pollution source. The cracking operation in limestone extraction areas easily causes high total suspended particulate (TSP) concentrations in the atmosphere, occasionally exceeding the 1-hr national emission standard of Taiwan (500 microg/m3). The concentration and size distribution were measured at different distances (0.0...

We present continuous wave laser emission in a photonic crystal microcavity operating at 1.5 microm at room temperature. The structures have been fabricated in an InP slab including a single layer of self-assembled InAs/InP quantum wires (QWrs) as active material. Laser emission in air suspended membranes with thresholds of effective optical pump power of 22 microW and quality factors up to 550...

We present, to the best of our knowledge, the first demonstration of a 2 μm Brillouin laser based on a thulium-doped fiber pump and a chalcogenide fiber. A short 1.5 m piece of suspended-core chalcogenide As38Se62 fiber is employed as a gain medium, taking advantage of its small effective mode area and high Brillouin gain coefficient. A record-low lasing threshold of 52 mW is achieved, which is...

We demonstrate the supercontinuum (SC) generation in a suspended-core As(2)S(3) chalcogenide microstructured optical fiber (MOF). The variation of SC is investigated by changing the fiber length, pump peak power and pump wavelength. In the case of long fibers (20 and 40 cm), the SC ranges are discontinuous and stop at the wavelengths shorter than 3500 nm, due to the absorption of fiber. In the ...

This article shows how to use calculus to find the center of mass of a soft, vertically suspended, cylindrical helical spring, which necessarily is non-uniformly stretched by the action of gravity. A general expression for the vertical position of the center of mass is obtained and compared with other results in the literature.
