In this paper, subclasses of monadic contextfree tree grammars (CFTGs) are compared. Since linear, nondeleting, monadic CFTGs generate the same class of string languages as tree adjoining grammars (TAGs), it is examined whether the restrictions of linearity and nondeletion on monadic CFTGs are necessary to generate the same class of languages. Epsilonfreeness on linear, nondeleting, monadic CFT...

We define a bidireccional bottom-up parser for Tree Adjoining Grammars (TAG). This parser is a mixture of a defined bidireccional bottom-up parser for TAG and a new parser for Tree Insertion Grammars (TIG) that we present here. We show that the new mixed parser for TAG presents a significative reduction of the theoretical complexity.

Tree parsing is an important problem in statistical machine translation. In this context, one is given (a) a synchronous grammar that describes the translation from one language into another and (b) a recognizable set of trees; the aim is to construct a finite representation of the set of those derivations that derive elements from the given set, either on the source side (input restriction) or...

Grammars are valuable resources for natural language processing. A large-scale grammar may incorporate a vast amount of information on morphology, syntax, and semantics. Traditionally, grammars are built manually. Hand-crafted grammars often contain rich information, but require tremendous human effort to build and maintain. As large-scale treebanks become available in the last decade, there ha...

We present a novel method for the computation of prefix probabilities for linear context-free rewriting systems. Our approach streamlines previous procedures to compute prefix probabilities for context-free grammars, synchronous context-free grammars and tree adjoining grammars. In addition, the methodology is general enough to be used for a wider range of problems involving, for example, sever...

One of the claimed benefits of Tree Adjoining Grammars is that they have an extended domain of locality (EDOL). We consider how this can be exploited to limit the need for feature structure unification during parsing. We compare two wide-coverage lexicalized grammars of English, LEXSYS and XTAG, finding that the two grammars exploit EDOL in different ways.

This document shows how the factorized syntactic descriptions provided by MetaGrammars coupled with factorization operators may be used to derive compact large coverage tree adjoining grammars.

In this paper, we present a system which can extract syntactic feature structures from a Korean Treebank (Sejong Treebank) to develop a Feature-based Lexicalized Tree Adjoining Grammars.

In this paper, we present an open-source parsing environment (Tübingen Linguistic Parsing Architecture, TuLiPA) which uses Range Concatenation Grammar (RCG) as a pivot formalism, thus opening the way to the parsing of several mildly context-sensitive formalisms. This environment currently supports tree-based grammars (namely Tree-Adjoining Grammars (TAG) and Multi-Component TreeAdjoining Gramma...
