conclusions radiofrequency ablation may be used successfully in the treatment of parathyroid adenoma when a patient cannot tolerate surgery. case presentation a 47-year-old patient was referred to our hospital (namazi hospital, shiraz, iran) in april, 2015 with intracranial hemorrhage, as well as high serum calcium and pth (parathyroid hormone) levels (12.1 mg/dl and 1062 pg/ml, respectively), ...

Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI) have been used for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, whether the combination therapy of TACE plus PEI is better than TACE or PEI alone in the treatment of HCC remains controversial. Thus, we conducted this meta-analysis to assess the efficacy of combined therapy for unresectable HC...

This study investigated the effectiveness of a new strategy, repeated radiofrequency (RF) ablation combined with ablated lesion elimination following transarterial chemoembolization (TACE)/transarterial embolization (TAE), for solitary huge hepatocellular carcinoma (SHHCC) 10 cm or larger. From July 2008 to October 2015, 39 consecutive patients with SHHCC were screened. Of these, 12 were treate...

The medical records of 110 dogs treated for primary hyperparathyroidism were reviewed. Dogs were treated via parathyroidectomy (n=47), percutaneous ultrasound-guided ethanol ablation (n=15), or percutaneous ultrasound-guided heat ablation (n=48). Forty-five of 48 (94%) parathyroidectomies resulted in control of hypercalcemia for a median of 561 days. Thirteen of 18 (72%) ethanol ablation proced...

Surgical resection is considered the standard of care in the management of symptomatic insulinoma. In this video, we describe the successful management of a symptomatic insulinoma by using linear array endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided ethanol ablation in a poor surgical candidate. EUS-guided ethanol ablation of insulinoma offers a safer, effective, and less invasive alternative to surgery.

BACKGROUND Ventricular tachycardia (VT) refractory to antiarrhythmic drugs and standard percutaneous catheter ablation techniques portends a poor prognosis. We characterized the reasons for ablation failure and describe alternative interventional procedures in this high-risk group. METHODS AND RESULTS Sixty-seven patients with VT refractory to 4±2 antiarrhythmic drugs and 2±1 previous endocar...

BACKGROUND Postoperative bile duct leak following hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery can be intractable, and the postoperative course can be prolonged. However, if the site of the leak is in the distal bile duct in the main biliary tract, the therapeutic options may be limited. Injection of absolute ethanol into the bile duct requires correct identification of the bile duct, and balloon occlu...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of cyst ablation with absolute ethanol in autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) patients with symptomatic cysts. MATERIALS AND METHODS Using absolute ethanol, cyst ablation was performed in 11 patients with documented ADPKD who suffered cyst pain refractory to medical treatment. An ethanol solution was instilled into the largest symptomatic cys...

Soft tissue tumors (STTs) include a range of benign and malignant originating from soft tissues. Transarterial percutaneous therapies are image-guided minimally invasive approaches for managing primary metastatic STTs. The objective this review is to discuss transarterial by examining the current literature, including indications, patient selection, safety, effectiveness. (e.g., bland embolizat...

INTRODUCTION Transarterial embolization is increasingly used in the management of renal angiomyolipoma. The level of evidence establishing the safety and efficacy of transarterial embolization has not increased in parallel. MATERIALS AND METHODS Using the MOOSE (Meta-analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology) criteria a systematic review of transarterial embolization of angiomyolipoma...
