During a parasitological investigation on the fresh water fishes of North West of Iran (West Azerbaijan Province), 266 specimens of 11 fishes were examined. Fishes were collected from seven stations from Aras, Zangbar and Sarysou Rivers between summer 2001 to summer 2002. Nine protozoan species were detected; eight Cilliophora and one Rhizopoda. Cilliophora are: Chilodonella sp., Apiosoma sp.,V...
Epiplasmin C is the major protein component of the membrane skeleton in the ciliate Tetrahymena pyriformis. Cloning and analysis of the gene encoding epiplasmin C showed this protein to be a previously unrecognized protein. In particular, epiplasmin C was shown to lack the canonical features of already known epiplasmic proteins in ciliates and flagellates. By means of hydrophobic cluster analys...
Histone fraction F2A1 has been isolated and purified from macronuclei of the ciliate Tetrahymena pyriformis. It migrates as a single species on sodium dodecyl sulphate-acrylamide gel electrophoresis, with a molecular weight indistinguishable from that of calf thymus F2A1. The solubility properties of Tetrahymena F2A1 are also similar to those of calf thymus F2A1. Electrophoretic analyses on ure...
Shewanella sp. CP20 is a marine bacterium that survives ingestion by Tetrahymena pyriformis and is expelled from the protozoan within membrane-bound vacuoles, where the bacterial cells show long-term survival. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of Shewanella sp. CP20 and discuss the potential mechanisms facilitating intraprotozoan survival.
