Among 120 Escherichia coli isolates from Thai patients, 37 and 9 isolates were extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) and suspected ESBL producers respectively while 5 E. coli isolates from 120 Thai healthy adults were suspected ESBL producers. Integrase (intl1) gene was detected in 99% of the clinical and 87% of the non-clinical isolates. Among 37 ESBL producers, percent recovery of bla(TEM),...

OBJECTIVES Klebsiella pneumoniae is a gram-negative rod bacterium, a known cause of community-acquired bacterial pneumonia and is an important hospital-acquired pathogen that causes severe morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to identify the TEM and SHV genes in K. pneumoniae isolated from cockroaches obtained from hospitals. METHODS In this study, 250 cockroaches were collected...

Global gyrokinetic simulations of electrostatic temperature-gradient-driven trapped-electron-mode (TEM) turbulence using the δf particle-in-cell code ORB5 are presented. The electron response is either fully kinetic or hybrid, i.e. considering kinetic trapped and adiabatic passing electrons. A linear benchmark in the TEM regime against the Eulerian-based code GENE is presented. Two different me...

Abstract Background and Objective: In the past, most strains of E. coli were susceptible to a wide range of antimicrobial agents, but this situation is now changed by indiscriminate use of antibiotics. Ceftriaxone and Ceftazidime are the most current antibiotics used for Enterobacteriaceae infections in hospitals. The aim of this study was to determine antimicrobial resistance of Escherichia co...

We previously showed that Tie2-expressing monocytes (TEMs) have nonredundant proangiogenic activity in tumors. Here, we compared the gene expression profile of tumor-infiltrating TEMs with that of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), spleen-derived Gr1(+)Cd11b(+) neutrophils/myeloid-derived suppressor cells, circulating "inflammatory" and "resident" monocytes, and tumor-derived endothelial cell...

Punctual mutations in the TEM-1 or TEM-2 gene may lead to inhibitor-resistant-TEM (IRT) beta-lactamases with resistance to beta-lactam-beta-lactamase inhibitor combinations and susceptibility to cephalosporins. The aim of this work was to analyze the current epidemiology of IRT beta-lactamases in contemporary clinical Escherichia coli. Isolates were prospectively collected in our hospital (2007...

A clinical isolate of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found to produce a clavulanic acid-inhibited extended-spectrum beta-lactamase with a pI of 6.4. PCR, cloning, and sequencing experiments showed that the corresponding bla(TEM-21) gene was part of a chromosomally located Tn801 transposon disrupted by an IS6100 element and adjacent to an aac(3)-II gene.

A clinical isolate of Morganella morganii, with reduced susceptibility to expanded-spectrum cephalosporins and aztreonam, was found to produce an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase with a pI of 6.4. The nucleotide sequence of the encoding gene was that of the gene encoding TEM-21. This is the first molecular characterization of an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase in M. morganii.

in the promoter –attenuator region of the chromoso-mal ampC gene were also studied by PCR and sequencing. 3 Broad-spectrum cephalosporin-resistant E. coli strains were detected in five of the 75 faecal samples analysed (6.6%, four dogs and one cat). Four of the five strains, obtained from four unrelated dogs, gave positive ESBL screening test results and were resistant to cefotaxime and/or ceft...
