Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare inherited chronic disease characterisedby unpredictable recurrent attacks of cutaneous and submucosal swelling potentially involving airways, frequently upper ones, and compromising patient's life. This impliesa serious health problem with significant burden reduced life quality(1). presentsa great clinical variability different endotypes, hampering diagnosis...

Guanosine 5'-O-(3-thiotriphosphate) (GTPgammaS) activated the I(Cl,swell) anion channel in N1E115 neuroblastoma cells in a swelling-independent manner. GTPgammaS-induced current was unaffected by ATP removal and broadly selective tyrosine kinase inhibitors, demonstrating that phosphorylation events do not regulate G protein-dependent channel activation. Pertussis toxin had no effect on GTPgamma...

Hypotonicity-induced cell swelling is characterized by a modification in cell architecture associated with actin cytoskeleton remodeling. The ezrin/radixin/moesin (ERM) family proteins are important signal transducers during actin reorganization regulated by the monomeric G proteins of the Rho family. We report here that in collecting duct CD8 cells hypotonicity-induced cell swelling resulted i...

We compared the clinical efficacy of orally administered valdecoxib and piroxicam for the prevention of pain, trismus and swelling after removal of horizontally and totally intrabony impacted lower third molars. Twenty-five patients were scheduled to undergo removal of symmetrically positioned lower third molars in two separate appointments. Valdecoxib (40 mg) or piroxicam (20 mg) was administe...

INTRODUCTION Rat adjuvant-induced arthritis (AIA) and collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) feature bone loss and systemic increases in TNFalpha, IL-1beta, and receptor activator of NF-kappaB ligand (RANKL). Anti-IL-1 or anti-TNFalpha therapies consistently reduce inflammation in these models, but systemic bone loss often persists. RANKL inhibition consistently prevents bone loss in both models with...

Maintenance of corneal hydration is dependent on the active transport properties of the corneal endothelium. We tested the hypothesis that lactic acid efflux, facilitated by buffering, is a component of the endothelial fluid pump. Rabbit corneas were perfused with bicarbonate-rich (BR) or bicarbonate-free (BF) Ringer of varying buffering power, while corneal thickness was measured. Perfusate wa...

angioedema is an asymmetric non-pitting oedema on face, lips, tongue and mucous membranes; any delay in diagnosis and treatment can be fatal. treatment with lisinopril as an angiotensin converting enzyme (ace) inhibitor, can be a reason of angioedema. here we report a case who developed oral-facial edema four years after using lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide. laryngeal oedema is a main cause of ...

We report a case of a 9-year-old female with known end-stage kidney disease who presented with sudden onset tongue swelling. A diagnosis of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor-induced angioedema related to bradykinin accumulation was made. Her symptoms resolved shortly after discontinuation of captopril. Early diagnosis can save patients from severe upper airway obstruction.
