We report an unusual case in which a patient presented with a large posterior mediastinal goiter that extended to the level of the aorta. The goiter was resected through a standard Kocher neck incision with mediastinoscopic assistance. The large goiter was completely excised without the need for a sternotomy.

The extraction by cervicotomy of substernal goitres may be impossible and sometimes requires the enlargement of the thoracic inlet with at least a sternal-split. We present the extraction of a posterior mediastinal substernal goitre with the application of an innovative vacuum-based suction device, previously used for the control of bleeding from the heart and great vessels in clinical and expe...

This report details such a case in which innominate vein occlusion was documented both by conventional venography and by a new technique utilizing a radionuclide (sodium pertechnetate 9#{...

UNLABELLED Ectopic thyroid goiter accounts approximately for 1% of all substernal goiters and for 10-15% of all mediastinal masses. Sternotomy is generally accepted as the most adequate approach for the removal of ectopic thyroid goiters of the anterior mediastinum. We report two cases of mediastinal ectopic goiter removal through a cervical incision, without sternotomy. The technique is based ...
