Staphylococcus chromogenes is one of the main coagulase-negative staphylococci isolated from mastitis of dairy cows. We describe S. chromogenes isolates that can clot plasma. Since the main pathogen causing mastitis is coagulase-positive Staphylococcus aureus, the coagulase-positive phenotype of S. chromogenes described here can easily lead to misidentification.
A longitudinal study in 3 dairy herds was conducted to profile the distribution of coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (CNS) species causing bovine intramammary infection (IMI) using molecular identification and to gain more insight in the pathogenic potential of CNS as a group and of the most prevalent species causing IMI. Monthly milk samples from 25 cows in each herd as well as samples from cl...
The aim of this study is to determine antibiotic resistance patterns and slime production characteristics of coagulase-negative Staphylococci (CoNS) caused nosocomial bacteremia. A total of 200 CoNS strains were isolated from blood samples of patients with true bacteremia who were hospitalized in intensive care units and in other departments of Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Medical Hospital be...
Milk samples of 100 clinically mastitic bovines (50 each from buffaloes and cows) were processed for bacterial isolation. A total of 90 bacterial isolates, including 33 of staphylococci and 57 of other bacterial species were recovered. Of the 33 staphylococcal isolates, 23 were identified as Staphylococcus aureus and 10 as Staphylococcus epidermidis. All Staphylococcus aureus isolates were posi...
To investigate a possible peroral route of infective endocarditis (IE), the occurrence of staphylococci in the oral cavity was examined using saliva and supragingival plaque specimens from 56 systemically and periodontally healthy adults aged 22-43 years old (27.1+/-5.3). Nine Staphylococcus species and 334 isolates were identified. In saliva, the total occurrence rate was 83.9 % and the total ...
Background & Aim: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the main causes of nosocomial infections and plays an important role in making hospital staff sick. This study was aimed to investigate the frequency of Staphylococcus aureus carriers and its methicillin-resistant pattern in Torbat Heydariyeh hospitals staff in 2013. Methods: This is a descriptive/cross sectional study conducted on 130 hospit...
A total of 28 staphylococcal isolates from human clinical specimens belonging to the Staphylococcus sciuri group were identified and characterized. The API Staph and ID32 STAPH correctly identified S. sciuri and S. lentus but not S. vitulinus strains. Identification to the subspecies level was possible only by a PCR-based method.
results out of 238 samples, 5.88% were resistant to quinupristin-dalfopristin; 5.46% to linezolid; 60.92% to co-trimoxazole; 31.93% to doxycycline; 18.90% to tigecycline; 5.04% to vancomycin; 9.24% to mupirocin; 43% to oxacillin and 46.21% of our isolates were resistant to cefoxitin. conclusions coming across isolates with reduced susceptibility to quinupristin-dalfopristin and resistant to lin...
introduction: thyroid gland is well known to resist infections by rich blood supply and lymphatic drainage, high glandular content of iodine which can be bactericidal and separation of the gland from other structures of neck. primary thyroid abscess resulting from acute suppurative thyroiditis (ast) is an unusual type of head and neck infection and it is a rare condotion in children so that p...
background staphylococcus aureus is a major nosocomial pathogen world wide. mupirocin plays a crucial role in strategies designed to control outbreaks of s. aureus. objectives the aim of this study was to determine the frequency of mupirocin resistance in s. aureus strains isolated from nasal carriers among the hospitalized patients at kermanshah hospital, iran. patients and methods a total of ...
