We present proper motions obtained from a dual frequency, six-epoch, VLBA polarization experiment monitoring a sample of 12 blazars. The observations were made at 15 GHz and 22 GHz at bi-monthly intervals over 1996. Ten of the eleven sources for which proper motion could be reliably determined are superluminal. Only J2005+77 has no superluminal components. Three sources (OJ 287, J1224+21, and J...

Presented in this paper is a low power, area efficient reconfigurable analog-to-digital (ADC) converter, utilising a charge-summation technique with a switched-capacitor implementation. Using a non-inverting switched-capacitor integrator a staircase ramp is produced using switching capacitors and a fixed reference voltage, as opposed to a linear ramp. The advantage of the charge summation techn...

The devil's staircase is a fractal structure that characterizes the ground state of one-dimensional classical lattice gases with long-range repulsive convex interactions. Its plateaus mark regions of stability for specific filling fractions which are controlled by a chemical potential. Typically, such a staircase has an explicit particle-hole symmetry; i.e., the staircase at more than half fill...

Analysis of electromagnetic planewave propagation in a medium which is a spatiotemporally homogeneous, temporally nonlocal, isotropic, chiral medium in a co–moving frame of reference shows that the medium is both spatially and temporally nonlocal with respect to all non–co–moving inertial frames of reference. Using the Lorentz transformations of electric and magnetic fields, we show that plane ...

Tunneling spectra of chain materials NbSe3 and TaS3 were studied in nanoscale mesa devices. Current-voltage I-V characteristics related to all charge density waves (CDWs) reveal universal spectra within the normally forbidden region of low V, below the electronic CDW gap 2Delta. The tunneling always demonstrates a threshold Vt approximately 0.2Delta, followed, for both CDWs in NbSe3, by a stair...

We describe a probabilistic approach to a relatively new combinatorial object called staircase tableaux. Our approach allows us to analyze several parameters of a randomly chosen staircase tableau of a given size.

Title: Weighted random staircase tableaux, asymmetric exclusion process, and generalized Eulerian polynomials. Abstract: Staircase tableaux are a relatively new combinatorial structure introduced by Sylvie Corteel and Lauren Williams in the context of the asymmetric exclusion process (ASEP) and Askey–Wilson polynomials. Since then, their purely combinatorial properties have gained considerable ...

Detailed electron transport analysis is performed for an ensemble of conical indium phosphide nanowires bridging two hydrogenated n-silicon electrodes. The current-voltage (Id-Vd) characteristics exhibit a Coulomb staircase in dark with a period of ~ 1 V at room temperature. The staircase is found to disappear under light illumination. This observation can be explained by assuming the presence ...
