With the development of Steel Truss Corridor (STC) toward long-span and gentle development, human-induced vibration often causes large lateral problems time-delay effects STC, which will have a non-negligible impact on dynamic performance STC. In this paper, parametric model proposed by Piccardo is improved, nonlinear equation STC established considering longitudinal–lateral walking force coupl...

An assembled plane truss structure used for vehicle loading is designed and manufactured. In the truss, the glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) tube and the steel joint are connected by a new technology featuring a pretightened tooth connection. The detailed description for the rod and node design is introduced in this paper, and a typical truss panel is fabricated. Under natural conditions, ...

Recently, an improved (l + k) constrainted differential evolution (ICDE) has been proposed and proven to be robust and effective for solving constrainted optimization problems. However, so far, the ICDE has been developed mainly for continuous design variables, and hence it becomes inappropriate for solving layout truss optimization problems which contain both discrete and continuous variables....

Polynomial‐basis response surface method has some shortcomings for truss structures in structural optimization, concluding the low fitting accuracy and the great computational effort. Based on the theory of approximation, a response surface method based on Multivariate Rational Function basis (MRRSM) is proposed. In order to further reduce the computational workload of MRRSM, focusing on the la...

In the present study, the dynamic compressive behavior of aluminum-alloy-based tetrahedral-core truss structures is investigated as a function of impact velocity using a split Hopkinson pressure bar. The results are used to understand the phenomenon of buckling in truss structures as a function of loading rates and test temperatures, and its implication on the dynamic crush resistance of tetrah...

A novel hybrid FRP-aluminum truss system has been employed in a two-rut modular bridge superstructure composed of twin inverted triangular trusses. The actual flexural behavior of a one-rut truss has been previously investigated under the on-axis loading test; however, the structural performance of the one-rut truss subjected to an off-axis load is still not fully understood. In this paper, a g...

On-orbit assembly technology is a key for future large-scale structure construction. For several decades, many concepts of space structures have been proposed and some of them have the idea of robotic construction systems. Authors have developed a concept of a truss joint system for largescale orbital structures and worked for space robotics research. Participating aJapanese space robotics expe...

Truss systems are widely used in engineering practice, mainly due to the economy, simple manufacturing, transportation and storage. These systems form the framework of such constructions as bridges, towers, roof supporting structures, etc. Usually a truss system includes a large number of elements (trusses), which can have different parameters (length, cross-sectional area, shape of crosssectio...

We present and motivate a new model of the truss topology design problem, where the rigidity of the resulting truss with respect both to given loading scenarios and small “occasional” loads is optimized. It is shown that the resulting optimization problem is a semidefinite program. We derive and analyze several equivalent reformulations of the problem and present illustrative numerical examples.

Structural reliability theory allows structural engineers to take the random nature of structural parameters into account in the analysis and design of structures. The aim of this research is to develop a logical framework for system reliability analysis of truss structures and simultaneous size and geometry optimization of truss structures subjected to structural system reliability constraint....
