Solitary fibrous tumor is an uncommon spindle cell neoplasm that is believed to be of mesenchymal origin. Rarely does it originate in the oral cavity, and only 1 case of this lesion in the floor of the mouth has been previously reported. We describe a new case of solitary fibrous tumor arising from the soft tissues of the floor of the mouth.
Myofibroma is an uncommon spindle cell neoplasm rarely found in oral cavity. Typically, this lesion is seen in neonates and infants with few cases reported in adults patients. In the oral cavity, myofibroma occurs within the submucosal or intramuscular tissue and has a predilection by the tongue, buccal mucosa and lips. Microscopically, a typical biphasic pattern can be observed. Misdiagnosis i...
BACKGROUND Mucinous cystic neoplasm (MCN) of the pancreas is basically cystic epithelial neoplasm, unilocular or multilocular, occurring almost exclusively in women. CASE PRESENTATION A 51-year-old female presented with a pancreatic mass incidentally found on the abdominal computed tomography. She underwent distal pancreatectomy. The sectioned surface of the pancreas revealed a circumscribed,...
Spindle cell oncocytoma (SCO) is a rare and recently described neoplasm arising from the pituitary adenohypophysis thought to be derived from the folliculostellate cells. Even though SCO has been classified as a distinct World Health Organization (WHO) grade I tumor, sellar neoplasms with an oncocytic appearance are uncommon and have a wide differential diagnosis that includes primary and metas...
kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (khe) appears as a single lesion at birth or early infancy in an equal sex ratio. a rare aggressive vascular proliferation has been recognized as a separate entity from other childhood vascular neoplasm. a 3-year-old iranian boy with a rapidly enlarging mass in his (posterior aspect of skull at the midline) skull was present here. physical examination revealed a ...
Spindle cell carcinoma (SpCC) is a rare and unusual biphasic malignant tumor, which involves sarcomatoid proliferation of pleomorphic spindle cells and squamous cell carcinoma. There are various reports on the clinical and pathological findings of SpCC in the head and neck; however, this type of tumor remains uncommon in the larynx and hypopharynx. The histogenesis of SpCC has been the subject ...
An inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a distinctive neoplasm composed of myofibroblastic and fibroblastic spindle cells, accompanied by inflammatory infiltration of plasma cells, lymphocytes, and eosinophils. IMTs rarely occur in the urinary bladder. It is important to distinguish this tumor from other malignant spindle cell tumors. Herein, we report a patient with an IMT showing muscl...
Intradural Extramedullary and Subcutaneous Tumors in Neonate : Atypical Myxoid Spindle Cell Neoplasm
Congenital peribronchial myofibroblastic tumor (CPMT) is a benign pulmonary spindle cell neoplasm of intrauterine and perinatal period, which is thought to arise from primitive peribronchial mesenchyme. We present a case detected incidentally in a one-month-old infant. The solid and partially necrotic tumor involved the right middle and lower lobes of the lung with extension to the diaphragm. H...
Biopsy of the lesion at scanning power shows laminar hyperkeratosis of the epidermis, slight irregular acanthosis, and a perivascular lymphocytic inflammatory infiltrate in the papillary and superficial reticular dermis (Fig. 3), in the mid reticular dermis there is an unencapsulated, poorly defined neoplasm, consisting of a symmetrically arranged proliferation of wavy spindle cells in fascicle...
