We herein present a case of tubercular spinal epidural abscess (SEA) without osseous involvement that mimicked an acute bacterial abscess. This case manifested quite unusual findings not only radiographically, but also clinically compared with previously reported cases of tubercular SEA.
INTRODUCTION The incidence of spinal epidural abscesses (SEAs) is rising. Although increased awareness has led to decreased mortality, morbidity remains unacceptably high, with rapid deterioration of neurological status when there is a delay in initiation of treatment. Therefore, we need to build a better understanding of prognostic factors and management strategies. The goal of this article is...
Two patients with spinal epidural abscess, but with different neurological outcomes, are presented. The pathogenesis, clinical features and current treatment are reviewed. The need for early diagnosis is once again stressed.
We report a case of spinal intradural abscess which shows serial changes on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Well-encapsulated, rim-enhancing lesion with mass effect was visualized at ventral side of lumbar spinal canal on 17 days after initial negative MRI, which was thought to be epidural abscess. It was revealed to be intradural in location on operation and successfully treated by drainage ...
OBJECTIVES To remind clinicians of the dangers of delayed diagnosis and the importance of early treatment of spinal epidural abscess. METHODS A review of the literature on spinal epidural abscess and a comparison of the published literature with local experience. RESULTS Imaging with MRI or CT enables early diagnosis of spinal epidural abcess and optimal therapy is surgical evacuation combi...
Spinal epidural abscess (SEA) is a rare clinical entity associated with a high morbidity and mortality. It usually spans 3-4 levels. The literature contains very few reports of extensive or panspinal epidural abscesses and hence there is no consensus on management of such cases. We describe a case of 56 years old male presenting with a posteriorly located SEA extending from the Foramen Magnum t...
Introduction:
Spinal epidural abscess is a rare neurosurgical emergency that usually seen invasive interventions to the spinal region, trauma or infection. In our case, anteriorly located abscess, which caused by spontaneous esophageal rupture as complication of radiotherapy, described.
 Case report:
A 60-year-old female patient was admitted department with complaints confusion...
We present the case of a patient with low back pain who rapidly progressed to cauda equina syndrome due to an extended epidural abscess of the thoracic, lumbar and sacral spine. The patient was successfully treated with surgical decompression through laminectomies at L1, L3 and L5 levels and surgical drainage of the epidural pus. Six-week course of intravenous antibiotic therapy followed. At 6-...

The patient was alert and oriented, and had stable vital signs but was mildly febrile. Positive physical findings included poor dentition, periodontal disease, diffusely tender abdomen, decreased rectal sphincter tone, absence of deep tendon reflex in both lower extrem...
