In order to investigate the effect of priming on germination characteristics of aged pumpkin seeds, under salinity stress an experiment was performed as a factorial design in a completely randomized design with 4 replications. Experiment was done in the Seed Science and Technology Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mohaghegh Ardabili University. Treatments included ...

Background: The application of polyamines as a plant growth substance with effect on a wide range of plant growth and development processes include cell division, flowering, senescence delay, membrane stability, absorb active radicals and different stress tolerance and polyamines Function as a anti-senescence and anti-stress agents in the plant and on the other hand the competitiveness of their...

In our previous study, we found that spermine and putrescine inhibited spontaneous and acetylcholine (ACh)-induced contractions of guinea-pig stomach via inhibition of L-type voltage-dependent calcium current (VDCC(L)). In this study, we also studied the effect of spermidine on mechanical contractions and calcium channel current (I(Ba)), and then compared its effects to those by spermine and pu...

1. Using protein-separative chromatographic procedures and assays specific for putrescine oxidase and spermidine oxidase, adult bovine serum was found to contain a single polyamine-degrading enzyme with substrate preferences for spermidine and spermine. Apparent Km values for these substrates were approx. 40 microM. The apparent Km for putrescine was 2 mM. With spermidine as substrate, the Ki v...

Spermidine is a naturally occurring polyamine compound that has recently emerged with anti-aging properties and suppresses inflammation and oxidation. However, its mechanisms of action on anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects have not been fully elucidated. In this study, the potential of spermidine for reducing pro-inflammatory and oxidative effects in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated m...

Local irradiation of tumors of rats bearing 3924A hepatomas resulted in more than a doubling of the putrescine levvel and nearly a doubling of spermidine concentration in the serum within 12 hr. Within 24 hr, the putrescine concentration had increased four-fold in the serum, along with a continued increase in the spermidine concentration. The decrease in the spermidine concentration of the tumo...

The urinary excretion of the polyamines--putrescine, spermidine, and spermine--was measured in 7 children with Beckwith's syndrome. Putrescine excretion was raised and spermidine excretion reduced. The raised putrescine and the low spermidine ratios were highly significant. These results are consistent with a disturbance in a metabolic pathway under growth hormone-like regulation.

Two naturally occurring polyamines, spermidine and spermine, mimicked the actions of insulin on lipid and glucose metabolism in isolated rat adipocytes. In the concentration range of 0.001 to 0.1 mM, spermidine and spermine suppressed lipolysis and stimulated conversion of glucose to carbon dioxide. Structure-function studies revealed that the insulin-mimicking properties of polyamines are depe...

Spermidine, a natural polyamine presented widely in mammalian cells, has been implicated to extend the lifespan of several model organisms by inducing autophagy. However, the effect of spermidine against neuronal damage has not yet been fully determined. In this study, neuronal cell injury was induced by treating PC12 cells and cortical neurons with 1 μM staurosporine (STS). We found that STS-i...

The cellular accumulations of polyamines and ribonucleic acid (RNA) were compared in the polyauxotrophic mutants of Escherichia coli strain 15 TAU and E. coli K-12 RC(re1) met(-) leu(-). Putrescine, spermidine, and their monoacetyl derivatives were the main polyamines in both strains, when grown in glucose-mineral medium. No significant degradation of either (14)C-putrescine or (14)C-spermidine...
