The association of skinfold thicknesses with race performance has been investigated in runners competing over distances of ≤50 km. This study investigated a potential relation between skinfold thicknesses and race performance in male ultra-marathoners completing >50 km in 24 hours. Variables of anthropometry, training, and previous performance were related to race performance in 63 male ultra-m...

OBJECTIVE Although the need for accurate anthropometric measurement has been repeatedly stressed, reports on growth and physical measurements in human populations rarely include estimates of measurement error. We describe the standardization process and reliability of anthropometric measurements carried out in a pilot study. METHODS For the intraobserver assessment of anthropometric measureme...

The present investigation finds the relationship between selected Anthropometric variables and performance of university level Volleyball Players. For the purpose of the study, thirty (N=30) volleyball players were selected as subjects from the North Zone Inter-University Volleyball Tournament. The selected Anthropometric measurements were taken with the help of vernier calipers and lange’s ski...

As a result of the previous studies it was obvious that weight alone or even weight relative to height is an inadequate measure of fatness, so fatfolddata including both triceps and subscapular fatfolds for about 3912school girls and boys have been studied during a survey about blood pressure standards and cardiovascular diseases in school children of Tehran. The results show a significant incr...

Comparison of skinfold thicknesses measured in childhood and again 15 years later in 318 male and 303 female subjects disclosed only a moderate relation between the two measurements. Where adult fatness could be predicted from combinations of skinfold thicknesses in childhood the accuracy in 95% of cases lay at the mean between +/- 8% and +/- 18% according to age and sex.

Regression equations predicting body density from skinfold measurements were derived for a group of lactating women. It was concluded that specific equations for lactation were not necessary, since the resultant equations were not significantly different from those published for non-lactating women. The ability to predict an individual's body density from skinfold thickness measurements was uns...

I. Skinfold thicknesses at seven sites were measured during and after pregnancy in eightyfour women ; in forty-eight of these, total body water was measured concurrently. 2. Early in pregnancy (10 weeks) the skinfold measurements were highly correlated with each other and with maternal weight, ratio of observed weight to standard weight-for-height, ‘dry’ (water-free) weight, and with calculated...

BACKGROUND: Protein-calorie malnutrition is common in chronic liver disease (CLD) but adequate clinical tools for nutritional assessment are not defined. OBJECTIVE: In CLD patients, it was aimed: 1. Characterize protein-calorie malnutrition; 2. Compare several clinical, anthropometric and functional tools; 3. Study the association malnutrition/CLD severity and malnutrition/outcome. METHODS:...

A recommended field method to assess body composition in adolescent sprint athletes is currently lacking. Existing methods developed for non-athletic adolescents were not longitudinally validated and do not take maturation status into account. This longitudinal study compared two field methods, i.e., a Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA) and a skinfold based equation, with underwater densitometry to t...

Background: Obesity, a growing epidemic, is a preventable risk factor for cardiometabolic diseases. Obesity and cardiometabolic diseases affect Hispanics and African Americans more than non-Hispanic Caucasians. This study examined the relationship among race/ethnicity, obesity diagnostic measures (body mass index, waist circumference, subscapular and triceps skinfold thickness), and cardiometab...
