Most existing universal approximation results for fuzzy systems are based on the assumption that we use t-norms and t-conorms to represent \and" and \or". Yager has proposed to use, within the fuzzy systems modeling paradigm, more general operations based on uninorms. In this paper, we show that the universal approximation property holds for an arbitrary choice of a uninorm.

In this paper, we propose a framework for a class of learning problems that we refer to as “learning to aggregate”. Roughly, learningto-aggregate problems are supervised machine learning problems, in which instances are represented in the form of a composition of a (variable) number on constituents; such compositions are associated with an evaluation, score, or label, which is the target of the...

In this paper the equation I(U1(x,y),z) = U2(I(x,z), I(y,z)) for all x,y,z ∈ [0,1] is solved where I is a residual implication defined from a uninorm U , and U1,U2 are a conjunctive and a disjunctive uninorm, respectively. Three cases are considered: i) when U is a t-norm, ii) when U1 is a t-norm and/or U2 is a t-conorm, and iii) the general case when the neutral elements of U,U1 and U2 are in ...

The law of importation for fuzzy implications is studied and it is solved for S, R, QL and D-implications derived from uninorms. Along this study many new solutions of this property appears different from those already known for implications derived from t-norms and t-conorms.

In this paper we provide an axiomatic characterization of the idempotent discrete uninorms by means of three conditions only: conservativeness, symmetry, and nondecreasing monotonicity. We also provide an alternative characterization involving the bisymmetry property. Finally, we provide a graphical characterization of these operations in terms of their contour plots, and we mention a few open ...

In this paper, we develop a relationship between two approaches to combining evidence: the Ordered Abelian Group (OAG) approach and the uninorm approach. We show that while there exist uninorms that are not extended OAG's it turns out that for operations which are continuous (in some reasonable sense), these two approaches coincide.

This paper is devoted to the study of implication (and co-implication) functions defined from idempotent uninorms. The expression of these implications, a list of their properties, as well as some particular cases are studied. It is also characterized when these implications satisfy some additional properties specially interesting in the framework of implication functions, like contrapositive s...
