Antioxidant activity of methanolic extract of Abutilon indicum leaves was investigated for its free radical scavenging activity by determining the nitric oxide and superoxide radical scavenging activity. Maximum scavenging of nitric oxide and superoxide radical found were 28.74 % and 49. 62 % respectively at 250 μg/ml concentration.

objectives: almond (prunus amygdalus) hull and shell are agricultural by-products that are a source of phenolic compounds.the processing of almond produce shell and hull, accounts for more than 50% by dry weight of the almond fruits. recently, more studies have focused on the influence of storage conditions and postharvest handling on the nutritional quality of fruits, especially the antioxidan...

The present work is carried out to study the antioxidant potential of ethanolic extract of Alstonia scholaris Linn. ( Apocynaceae ) using various in vitro tests including 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazil (DPPH . ) free radical scavenging, metal ion chelating, hydrogen peroxide scavenging, superoxide anion radical scavenging, and ferric thiocyanate reducing ability.   Ethanolic ex...

Glutathione (GSH) is the classical example of a scavenging antioxidant. It forms the first line of defense and efficiently scavenges reactive species, e.g., hypochlorous acid (HOCl), before they inflict damage to biomolecules. Scavenging antioxidant activity is best established in competition assays (that closely mimics molecular mechanism of the biological effect). In this type of assay, the a...

Fucoxanthin (Fuco) is a characteristic carotenoid of brown seaweeds. In the present study, Fuco and its stereoisomers 9'Z-Fuco, 13Z- and 13'Z-Fuco were extracted from Laminaria japonica Aresch. They were isolated and purified by silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20, and reversed-phase HPLC. The radical-scavenging activities of the three stereoisomers were evaluated toward 1,1-diphen...

To explore the free radical scavenging properties of crude ethanolic extract of galls, bark, leaves, roots of Pistacia integerrima and its subsequent solvent fractions viz., n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol against 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) stable. In vitro DPPH based free radical was employed using querceitin as standard antioxidant while methanol as negative contro...

The methanolic extract of Sida retusa Linn.(Malvaceae),Urena lobata Linn.(Malvaceae)and Triumfetta rhomboidea Jacq.(Teliaceae) roots were found to inhibit lipid peroxidation, scavenge hydroxyl and superoxide radicals in vitro. The quantity of S.retusa root extract required for 50% inhibition of lipid peroxidation, scavenging hydroxyl radical and superoxide radical was 1130.24 ug/ml respectively...

Antioxidant activity of chloroform extract of Aesculus indica leaves was investigated for its free radical scavenging activity by determining the nitric oxide and superoxide radical scavenging activity. Maximum scavenging of nitric oxide and superoxide radical found were 27.62% and 48.65% respectively at 250 μg/ml concentration.
