Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) were developed for quantifying cytomegalovirus (CMV) and rubella antibodies using a single serum dilution (1/800) in conjunction with a standard curve. A near linear relation was found between the logarithms of absorbance values of sera at a dilution of 1/800 and the titres as determined by an end point dilution ELISA. The reproducibility of the single...
Introduction & Objective: Despite mild and self limited manifestation of rubella , involvement of fetus as a consequence of prenatal infection is very important and can lead to congenital rubella syndrome (Cs). The aim of this study was the evaluation of immunity rate against rubella virus in women who were in child bearing ages. Materials & Methods: This survey was performed with cooperatio...
In this report, a seroepidemiological survey was performed to determine the prevalence of rubella immunity and antibody titer in 11-16 year old girls in urban and rural areas of Tonkabon district in northern Iran. The results and conclusion are presented.
Objective: This study was undertaken to determine in a cross-sectional survey whether rubella virus circulation in the Indian population induces detectable immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies with a protective level, in a random group of pregnant & nonpregnant women. Methods: Rubella-IgG antibody status was assessed in 1182 Indian women comprising of 617 pregnant women, 497 nonpregnant women of c...
Background and Aims: Rubella is a contagious viral disease mostly with mild clinical symptoms and often remains undiagnosed. Rubella infection may adversely affect pregnancy, especially in the first trimester and this mother to child transmission can cause congenital rubella and may be lead to permanent disability and mortality in children. Effective rubella vaccine should be prepared using sui...
Although the data are not available, it seems that the risk to the fetus of asymptomatic reinfection is small,3" and certainly it is far less than that of primary rubella. In the rare cases of symptomatic reinfection viraemia may be presumed to have occurred, putting the fetus at appreciable risk.9 An antibody response may be confidently ascribed to reinfection if two or more previous positive ...
To define the concentration of anti-rubella virus (RV) antibodies discriminating nonimmune from immune persons and to characterize immune responses to rubella vaccination, serologic studies were performed after rubella vaccination in persons with low or undetectable antibody concentrations. Thirty-six subjects with primary immune responses had prevaccination anti-RV IgG concentrations <15 IU/mL...
Rubella remains a social and economic burden due to the high incidence of congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) in some countries. For this reason, an accurate and efficient high-throughput measure of antibody response to vaccination is an important tool. In order to measure rubella-specific neutralizing antibodies in a large cohort of vaccinated individuals, a high-throughput immunocolorimetric sy...
BACKGROUND Rubella is a mild viral infection affecting women of reproductive age, and the fetus in early pregnancy, leading to miscarriage, stillbirth and Congenital Rubella Syndrome. OBJECTIVES The present study aimed to assess serum level of anti-rubella antibodies in women younger than 25 years attending medical centers in Ahvaz city. PATIENTS AND METHODS This descriptive cross-sectional...
Radial haemolysis (RH) for assaying rubella antibody was studied in parallel tests with haemagglutination-inhibition (HAI) on 1102 sera from adult women. Simple to perform and economical in reagents, the RH test is as sensitive as the HAI test and is a useful method of screening antenatal and other sera for rubella immunity. It detects IgG but not IgM antibody.
