Both the incompressibility \Ka of a finite nucleus mass A and that ($K_{\infty}$) infinite nuclear matter are fundamentally important for many critical issues in physics astrophysics. While some consensus has been reached about $K_{\infty}$, accurate theoretical predictions experimental extractions $K_{\tau}$ characterizing isospin dependence have very difficult. We propose differential approac...
We propose an experiment to isotopically identify and determine the production cross sections of residual nuclei in the fragmentation of very neutron-rich nuclei around Sn produced in the fission of relativistic U primary projectiles. These measurements will provide valuable information about a possible two-step reaction scheme (fission-fragmentation) to optimise the production of extremely neu...
The blocking effect of histones on accessibility of DNA to DNase has been studied by addition of various histones to chromatin in intact or histone-depleted thymus nuclei (those from which all lysine-rich histone was removed and those from which much of the arginine-rich histone was removed) and to deoxyribonucleoprotein (chromatin) extracted from nuclei. In each case lysine-rich histone, weigh...
High-spin-isomer research is briefly reviewed, with attention to the highest spins, the heaviest elements, proton-rich nuclei and neutron-rich nuclei. The utility of isomers is emphasised in connection with the study of exotic nuclei, where isomeric states may be longer lived than ground states. It is pointed out that isomers may also provide opportunities for studying effects at the atomic-nuc...
For more than half a century, nucleons were considered to move continuously in the nuclei. Recent electron-scattering experiments indicate about 20--25% of heavier nuclei are involved neutron-proton short-range correlations. Nucleons thus have abnormal behavior unlike those noninteraction fermi gas. In neutron-rich nuclei, around Fermi momentum, correlations lead momentum gap proton distributio...
Neutron-rich nuclei beyond N = 126 in the lead region were populated by fragmenting a U beam at 1 GeV A on a Be target and then separated by the Fragment Separator (FRS) at GSI. Their isomeric decays were observed, enabling study of the shell structure of neutron-rich nuclei around the Z=82 shell closure. Some preliminary results are reported in this paper.
