materials and methods statistical and regressive modeling methods were used to investigate the effects of the carbon source and to optimize the production media. results the spinosad production of s. spinosa co121 increased 77.13%, from 310.44 ± 21.84 μg/ml in the initial fermentation medium (with glucose as the main carbon source) to 549.89 ± 38.59 μg/ml in a new optimized fermentation medium ...

Plant architecture is shaped through the continuous formation of organs by meristems. Class I KNOTTED1-like homeobox (KNOXI) genes are expressed in the shoot apical meristem (SAM) and are required for SAM maintenance. KNOXI proteins and cytokinin, a plant hormone intimately associated with the regulation of cell division, share overlapping roles, such as meristem maintenance and repression of s...

Burying beetles, Nicrophorus orbicollis, depend on the location of an unpredictable resource, a small vertebrate carcass, for reproduction. When they discover a carcass, they undergo a correlated rapid rise in titers of juvenile hormone (JH) in the hemolymph and ovarian development. This study investigates the regulation of the changes in JH during breeding in both male and female burying beetl...

Stomatal responses to changes in vapor pressure deficit (VPD) constitute the predominant form of daytime gas-exchange regulation in plants. Stomatal closure in response to increased VPD is driven by the rapid up-regulation of foliar abscisic acid (ABA) biosynthesis and ABA levels in angiosperms; however, very little is known about the physiological trigger for this increase in ABA biosynthesis ...

Abstract Background Phaffia rhodozyma has many desirable properties for astaxanthin production, including rapid heterotrophic metabolism and high cell densities in fermenter culture. The low optimal temperature range (17–21 °C) growth synthesis this species presents an obstacle to efficient industrial-scale production. inhibition mechanism of at > 21 °C P. have not been investigated. Results...

Polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols (PPAPs) are structurally complex natural products with promising biological activities. Herein, we present a biosynthesis-inspired, diversity-oriented synthesis approach for rapid construction of PPAP analogs via double decarboxylative allylation (DcA) of acylphloroglucinol scaffolds to access allyl-desoxyhumulones followed by dearomative conjunctive allylic a...

Antizyme, a spermidine-induced protein that binds and stimulates ornithine decarboxylase degradation, is now shown also to mediate the rapid feedback inhibition of polyamine uptake into mammalian cells. Using a cell line (HZ7) transfected with truncated antizyme cDNA, and mutant ornithine decarboxylase cell lines, we demonstrate that this newly discovered action of antizyme is distinct from its...

We report a case of a very fast and intriguing decrease in IgE concentrations after exclusion from the diet of any CM lysate in an unusual clinical presentation of cow's milk allergy in an infant. Analysis of IgE kinetics after allergen elimination suggests rapid cessation of IgE biosynthesis and a short IgE half-life.

Fatty acids are essential for membrane biosynthesis in all organisms and serve as signaling molecules in many animals. Here, we found that saturated very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs; C20:0 to C30:0) exogenously applied in ovule culture medium significantly promoted cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) fiber cell elongation, whereas acetochlor (2-chloro-N-[ethoxymethyl]-N-[2-ethyl-6-methyl-phenyl]-ace...
