Fiber-optic Raman probe couples ball lens for depth-selected Raman measurements of epithelial tissue
In this study, we present a fiber-optic ball lens Raman probe design for improving depth-selected Raman measurements of epithelial tissue. The Monte Carlo simulation results show that tissue Raman collection efficiency can be improved by properly selecting the refractive index and the diameter of the ball lens for the Raman probe design and the depth-selectivity of Raman measurements can also b...
Introduction: Raman spectroscopy, that is a spectroscopic technique based on inelastic scattering of monochromatic light, can provide valuable information about molecular vibrations, so using this technique we can study molecular changes in a sample. Material and Methods: In this research, 153 Raman spectra obtained from normal and dried skin samples. Baseline and electrical noise were eliminat...
In the Raman effect, incident light is inelastically scattered from a sample and shifted in frequency by the energy of its characteristic molecular vibrations. Since its discovery in 1927, the effect has attracted attention from a basic research point of view as well as a powerful spectroscopic technique with many practical applications. The advent of laser light sources with monochromatic phot...
We present a review of the Raman spectra of graphite from an experimental and theoretical point of view. The disorder-induced Raman bands in this material have been a puzzling Raman problem for almost 30 years. Double-resonant Raman scattering explains their origin as well as the excitation-energy dependence, the overtone spectrum and the difference between Stokes and anti-Stokes scattering. We...
FT-SERS (Fourier Transform Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering) of adriamycin and its complex with DNA is reported. It is shown that in agreement with previous Raman studies the interaction of adriamycin with DNA takes place through an intercalation mechanism. The presence of a new band at 731 cm-1 suggests that ring D of adriamycin is not involved in the intercalation process.
The phenomenon of inelastic scattering of light by matter is referred as Raman spectroscopy named after Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman who first observed it experimentally in 1928 [1]. Because only one photon out of 106-1012 incident photons is inelastically or Raman scattered, it took some time until lasers with high enough light intensities for efficient Raman excitation and very sensitive ...
Raman fiber laser is an efficient way to expand the spectral coverage of fiber lasers. In recent years, output power of Raman fiber laser has been scaled quickly. There is a great potential in further power scaling, technical innovations, and scientific applications. An integrated ytterbium-Raman fiber amplifier architecture was proposed, which allows power scaling of Raman fiber laser to over ...
Unlike spontaneous Raman effect, nonlinear Raman scattering generates fields with a well-defined phase, allowing Raman signals from individual scatterers to add up into a highly directional, high-brightness coherent beam. Here, we show that the phase of coherent Raman scattering can be accurately controlled and finely tuned by using spectrally and temporally tailored optical driver fields. In o...
Unlike its application for atherosclerotic plaque analysis, Raman microspectroscopy was sporadically used to check the sole nature of bioapatite deposits in stenotic aortic valves, neglecting the involvement of accumulated lipids/lipoproteins in the calcific process. Here, Raman microspectroscopy was employed for examination of stenotic aortic valve leaflets to add information on nature and dis...
Modified indirect hard modeling for non-invasive Raman measurements containing surface interference.
Non-invasive Raman spectroscopy has been used in an increasing number of applications in recent years. However, in situations where surface signal is excessive, the acquired spectrum of probed sample suffers from surface interference in either conventional backscattering Raman or specially designed Raman methods. A computational method for Raman spectral recovery is required. Strong overlapp...
