Three-dimensional flow of a low-density polyethylene in a spiral die for blown-film extrusion is simulated. Effect of elongational viscosity on the flow in the spiral die is analyzed. Elongational viscosity is found to have significant effect on the velocity distribution at the die exit and on the pressure and temperature distributions in the die.

Using a high density polyethylene thin film over gold layer, a Surface PlasmonResonance sensor for detecting n-dodecane vapor is developed. Preliminary results will bepresented, showing that samples in the range of a few hundred ppm(V) of n-dodecanevapor in butane gas can be sensed. Also, studying the response as a function of time, it isdemonstrated that the sensing process is quickly reversible.
Porous pigments in which chemically responsive dyes have been immobilized in a matrix of organically modified siloxanes (ormosils) have been prepared and characterized by AFM, TEM, EDS, and optical analysis.
