Advances in bacterial cell biology have demonstrated the importance of protein localization for protein function. In general, proteins are thought to localize to the sites where they are active. Here we demonstrate that in Escherichia coli, MurG, the enzyme that mediates the last step in peptidoglycan subunit biosynthesis, becomes polarly localized when expressed at high cellular concentrations...

sponges are the simplest multicellular animals that lack defense mechanisms and rely on chemical defense  that have been used by mankind to develop antimicrobial drugs against diseases.  the present study was designed to demonstrate the antibacterial and antifungal activities of marine sponge dysidea pallescens semipolar and nonpolar extracts. in this study, d. pallescens were collected from he...

In this note we point out the relation between Brion’s formula for the lattice point generating function of a convex polytope in terms of the vertex cones [Bri88] on the one hand, and the polar decomposition à la Lawrence/Varchenko [Law91a, Var87] on the other. We then go on to prove a version of polar decomposition for non-simple polytopes.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus has dual flagellar systems adapted for locomotion under different circumstances. A single, sheathed polar flagellum propels the swimmer cell in liquid environments. Numerous unsheathed lateral flagella move the swarmer cell over surfaces. The polar flagellum is produced continuously, whereas the synthesis of lateral flagella is induced under conditions that impede the fu...

Here, we present a study of polar residues within the membrane core of alpha-helical membrane proteins. As expected, polar residues are less frequent in the membrane than expected. Further, most of these residues are buried within the interior of the protein and are only rarely exposed to lipids. However, the polar groups often border internal water filled cavities, even if the rest of the side...

All microsporidia possess a unique, highly specialized invasion mechanism that involves the polar tube and spore wall. The interaction between spore wall proteins (SWPs) and polar tube proteins (PTPs) in the formation, arrangement, orderly orientation, and function of the polar tube and spore wall remains to be determined. This study was undertaken to examine the protein interactions of Nosema ...

Abstract: The application of electric field theory to widely different aspects of electrical insulation has led to more understanding the phenomena. Electric fields may be considered as the main reason for insulation failure. The purpose of this paper is to modify importance of analyzing electric field in insulation design. The SF6 circuit breaker is chosen as case study that encounters cri...
