In this paper, we introduce a new phylogenetic tree algorithm that generates phylogenetic trees by repeatedly inserting species one-by-one. The incremental phylogenetic tree algorithm can work on proteins or DNA sequences. Computer experiments show that the new algorithm is better than the commonly used UPGMA and Neighbor Joining algorithms. Keywords—Data structure, Distance matrix, Phylogeneti...

Background: Avian reovirus (ARV) has a global distribution in nature and most clinical signs are found in broiler type chickens. Aims: This study was conducted to detect and identify reovirus infections from vaccinated breeder chickens and their progenies. Methods: A total of 20 tissue and blood samples were collected from vaccinated broiler br...

We prove that Nakhleh’s latest ‘metric’ for phylogenetic networks is a metric on the classes of tree-child phylogenetic networks, of semi-binary time consistent tree-sibling phylogenetic networks, and of multi-labeled phylogenetic trees. We also prove that it separates distinguishable phylogenetic networks. In this way, it becomes the strongest dissimilarity measure for phylogenetic networks ava...

In this work, we answer an open problem in the study of phylogenetic networks. Phylogenetic trees are rooted binary trees in which all edges are directed away from the root, whereas phylogenetic networks are rooted acyclic digraphs. For the purpose of evolutionary model validation, biologists often want to know whether or not a phylogenetic tree is contained in a phylogenetic network. The tree ...

The Fair Proportion of a species in a phylogenetic tree is a very simple measure that has been used to assess its value relative to the overall phylogenetic diversity represented by the tree. It has recently been proved by Fuchs and Jin to be equal to the Shapley Value of the coallitional game that sends each subset of species to its rooted Phylogenetic Diversity in the tree. We prove in this p...

To gain insight into the ecological processes driving community reassembly in disturbed ecosystems, we assessed the phylogenetic dispersion of earlyand late-successional tree species occurring in lowland forests of northeastern Costa Rica. Early-successional species were more closely related than expected by chance, whereas late-successional species tended to be less closely related than expect...
