Background & Aims of the Study: Phenolic compounds have been extensively used in industries for applications such as petrochemical, oil refineries, papers, plastics, steel, pharmaceuticals, textiles, coal conversion, and so on. Specified amounts of Phenolic compounds are lost in the process of their manufacturing and utilization and often cause environmental pollution problems....

In present study the photocatalytic degradation of commercial azo dye Direct Red 5B (DR5B dye) has been carried out in presence of recently developed photocatalyst: methylene Blue immobilized resin Dowex-11, under visible light. The effect of process parameters such as variation of the dye concentration, pH, light intensity and amount of catalyst loading on the reaction rate has been studied .T...

Mesoporous silica, specifically SBA-15, acid-treated multi-walled carbon nanotubes and a hybrid nanocomposite of SBA-15 coated onto the sidewalls acid-treated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were prepared and used as supports for anatase TiO2. Sol-gel methods were adapted for the synthesis of selected supports and for coating the materials with selected wt% loading of titania. Physical and...

The aerobic organocatalytic oxidation of alcohols was achieved by using water-soluble sodium anthraquinone sulfonate. Under visible-light activation, this catalyst mediated the aerobic oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes and ketones. The photo-oxyfunctionalization of alkanes was also possible under these conditions.

We demonstrate a dark-field microscopic technique for real-time monitoring of DNA metallization. The growth of silver nanoparticles on DNA molecules was observed using plasmon resonance light scattering in the presence of a weak catalyst triggering photo-reduction of Ag(+). This simple strategy could facilitate the controlled fabrication of DNA-templated nanoelectronic devices.

Magnetically separable photocatalyst beads containing nano-sized iron oxide in alginate polymer were prepared. This magnetic photocatalyst beads are used in slurry-type reactors. The magnetism of the catalyst arises from the nanostructured particles gamma-Fe(2)O(3), by which the catalyst can be easily recovered by the application of an external magnetic field. These synthesized beads are sunlig...

The effect of SO2 gas was investigated on the activity of the photo-assisted selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen monoxide (NO) with ammonia (NH3) over a TiO2 photocatalyst in the presence of excess oxygen (photo-SCR). The introduction of SO2 (300 ppm) greatly decreased the activity of the photo-SCR at 373 K. The increment of the reaction temperature enhanced the resistance to SO2 gas, and...

Three water-soluble cobalt porphyrins have been investigated as water oxidation catalysts via photo-initiation using Ru(II)(bpy)3(2+)/Na2S2O8. The pH dependence of the turnover frequency revealed maximum activity at pH 11. Based on the second order dependence on catalyst concentration for the rate of water oxidation, we suggest a bimolecular radical coupling process as the rate determining step.
