Chiral framework: Chiral amines with pyrrolidine frameworks catalyze the enantioselective conjugate addition of a wide range of aldehydes to various vinyl sulfones and vinyl phosphonates in high yields and with enantioselectivities up to >99 % ee (see scheme). The high versatility of the Michael adducts is exemplified by various functionalizations with conservation of the optical purity.Chiral ...

An efficient and highly enantioselective copper-catalyzed allylic alkylation of phosphonates and phosphine oxides with Grignard reagents and Taniaphos or phosphoramidites as chiral ligands is reported. Transformation of these products leads to a variety of new phosphorus-containing chiral intermediates.

Enantioselective alkylation of β-keto phosphonates with diaryl methanols in the presence of catalytic amounts of copper(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate and an optically active ligand gives the corresponding alkylated products in good to high yields with a high enantioselectivity.

The ability of a number of p-nitrophenylethyl, alkyl phenylalkyl, chloroalkyl, and aminoalkyl phosphonates to inhibit the homocytotropic antibody-mediated release of histamine from rat peritoneal mast cells has been tested. The effectiveness of these same phosphonates against the activated first component of rat complement (C'1a) has also been investigated. The rat mast cell esterase activated ...

The involvement of a viral agent in the pathogenesis of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) points to antiviral agents as possible therapeutic and/or prophylactic options in the management of the disease. In the present study we investigated the antiproliferative effects of various chemotherapeutic agents, including acyclic nucleoside phosphonates, on the growth of KS-derived cells. Nested PCR amplification ...

Oligonucleotide (2-aminoethyl)phosphonates in which the backbone consisted of isomerically pure, alternating (2-aminoethyl)-phosphonate and phosphodiester linkages have been prepared and characterized. One of these single isomer oligonucleotides (Rp) formed a more stable duplex with DNA or RNA than its corresponding natural counterpart. Hybrid stability was more pH-dependent, but less salt-depe...
