GAD antibody (GADA) positivity is a hallmark of autoimmune diabetes and the rare autoimmune neurological disorder Stiff-Person Syndrome (SPS). Concomitant SPS and classical type 1 diabetes (T1D) have been described in case reports (1–3). A recent series of SPS reported the prevalence of T1D at 43% (4). INTRODUCTION Stiff-person syndrome (SPS) is manifested by fluctuating rigidity of axial musculature with painful episodic spasms due to simultaneous co-contraction of agonist and antagonist muscles. We present a case report and video illustrating response to treatment with rituximab. MATERIALS AND METHODS Case description and video are provided. A literature search for other reports of treatm...

The authors describe a 38-year-old woman with stiff person syndrome (SPS) and gaze-holding nystagmus, limited abduction, vertical and horizontal ocular misalignment, deficient smooth pursuit, and impaired saccade initiation. There was no evidence of ocular myasthenia, indicating that abnormalities of ocular motor function can occur as a primary manifestation of SPS, perhaps from depletion of GABA.

Stiff-person syndrome (SPS) is a rare neurologic disease manifested by persistent muscle contractions causing marked rigidity in the affected individual . There are many case descriptions and clinical reviews in the neurologic literature, outlining a progression of knowledge from the early clinical description of SPS to advanced molecular biologic and immunologic studies implicating the gamma-a...

Stiff person syndrome (SPS) is a rare, chronic disorder characterized by painful spasm and stiffness. We investigated the quality of life (QoL) in SPS patients, and identified factors associated with impairment in patients' QoL. Twenty-four SPS patients (10 men, 14 women; mean age +/- S.D., 52.6 +/- 9.5 years) completed the medical outcomes study Short Form health survey (SF-36), the Beck Depre...
