This paper gives a brief summary of acoustical theory based on human perception. It then uses this theory to discuss the design and performance data of electronic acoustic enhancement systems installed in a number of opera houses and concert halls. The installations include the Deutches Staatsoper in Berlin, the Hummingbird Center in Toronto, and the Adelaide Festival Center Theater in Adelaide...
Music has been playing an important role in the society. With the wide spread of digital and mobile devices, the consumption of music has been increasing significantly. Therefore, the demand for automatic processing and analyzing music with computational technologies has also been pushed to a new ground. It has opened up opportunities for a variety of applications which were not possible before...
Launching an E-Learning System in a School - Cross-European e-/m-Learning System UNITE: A Case Study
The paper reports on a case study concerning the e-/m-Learning implementation of theories and practices in school settings. Within the framework of the UNITE project, organisational, pedagogical, technical and infrastructural support was provided to a network of 14 European schools. This paper describes activities preceding and those undertaken through the launch of the UNITE system from the pe...
The OPERA experiment, exposed to the CERN to Gran Sasso νμ beam, collected data from 2008 to 2012. Four oscillated ντ Charged Current interaction candidates have been detected in appearance mode, which are consistent with νμ → ντ oscillations at the atmospheric ∆m2 within the “standard” three-neutrino framework. In this paper, the OPERA ντ appearance results are used to derive limits on the mix...
— This paper reviews an experimental opera production, where digitally augmented content was used interactively during the performance. Projected graphics and spatialized sounds were designed to support the story. The animated 3D graphics acted as virtual stage, narrative element, or reflection of thoughts of a character. The special effects were partly un...
The physics motivations and the detector design of the long baseline OPERA experiment are discussed; OPERA is a hybrid detector made of several types of electronic subdetectors, 2 magnets and lead/nuclear emulsions " brick " walls. It is located in the Gran Sasso underground lab, 732 km from CERN, on the CNGS neutrino beam. A summary of the performances and of the physics plans are presented.

The ultra-high precision g-2 experiment requires a fast kicker to deflect incoming muon beam with a momentum of 3.094 Gev/c. A magnetic kicker was selected since this approach requires the lowest excitation voltage of all designs considered. However, a higher driving current (>6000A) is required which leads to more residual eddy current field to influence the main dipole magnetic field. Several...
