The influence that short circuits have on contact hole open circuits and via hole open circuits in regular string test structures will be investigated. To detect open circuits as well as short circuits in adjacent conducting layers of backend process steps, a novel weave test structure (WTS) is presented. Numerous contact strings or via strings are arranged inside boundary pads like a woven pie...

In this paper, an approach is presented that allows for a linkage between cutting process induced damage and the mechanical properties of machined structures. For carbon fibre reinforced polymers, milling remote laser processes are analysed. Open hole tensile test specimens, either milled or cut with three different parameter configurations tested. With two-dimensional heat conduction simulatio...

The exact black hole solution of 2D closed string theory has, as any other maximally extended Schwarzschild-like geometry, two asymptotically flat spacetime domains. One can get rid of the second domain by gauging the discrete symmetry on the SL(2,R)/U(1) coset that interchanges the two asymptotic domains and preserves the Kruskal time orientation everywhere in the Kruskal plane. Here it is sho...

The global solved problem is the calculation of the parameters of ceramic material from a set of destruction tests of ceramic heads of total hip joint endoprosthesis. The standard way of calculation of the material parameters consists in carrying out a set of 3 or 4 point bending tests of specimens cut out from parts of the ceramic material to be analysed. In case of ceramic heads, it is not po...

We used 15 pairs of femora from fresh human cadavers to study the effects of the size and location of the entry hole for an intramedullary nail on the strength of the femur. Right femora were used as controls. Left femora in group 1 had a 10 mm entry hole in the 'ideal' location in the piriformis fossa. Group 2 had a 14 mm entry hole in the same position and group 3 had a 14 mm entry hole anter...

Failure analysis and fatigue life prediction are necessary and critical for engineering structural materials. In this paper, a general methodology is proposed to predict fatigue life of smooth and circular-hole specimens, in which the crack closure model and equivalent initial flaw size (EIFS) concept are employed. Different effects of crack closure on small crack growth region and long crack g...

The present study was conducted to investigate current density of0.3 0.7 Al Ga N/ GaN multiple quantum well solar cell (MQWSC) under hydrostaticpressure. The effects of hydrostatic pressure were taken into account to measureparameters of 0.3 0.7 Al Ga N/ GaN MQWSC, such as interband transition energy, electronholewave functions, absorption coefficient, and dielectric con...

Estimating the costs of blasting operations is an important parameter in open-pit mining. Blasting and rock fragmentation depend on two groups of variables. The first group consists of mass properties, which are uncontrollable, and the second one is the drill-and-blast design parameters, which can be controlled and optimized. The design parameters include burden, spacing, hole length, hole diam...

A combined experimental and numerical study is undertaken to examine the effects of pre-machined holes on strain localization and overall ductility in eutectic tin-lead alloy. Thin-sheet specimens with equal-sized holes aligned in the tensile loading direction are used. The tensile tests were performed at room temperature with a nominal strain rate of 0.001 s . The specimen, containing one hole...

We review the present status of black hole thermodynamics. Our review includes discussion of classical black hole thermodynamics, Hawking radiation from black holes, the generalized second law, and the issue of entropy bounds. A brief survey also is given of approaches to the calculation of black hole entropy. We conclude with a discussion of some unresolved open issues.
