We report a unique growth of platelet-shaped nanoscale tips of transparent dielectric using femtosecond laser radiation at MHz pulse repetition rate with nitrogen background gas flow under ambient condition. The tips grew with sharp nanoscale apex while their base and lengths are of the order of few hundred nanometers. In the absence of nitrogen, the irradiation leads to nanofibrous structure f...

We demonstrate a compact frequency-stabilized laser at 1.06 m for wavelength conversion. The achieved frequency stability is sufficient to connect the nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond and the telecommunication wavelength for long distance quantum communication.

We report the observation of rotational Bloch oscillations in a gas of nitrogen molecules kicked by a periodic train of femtosecond laser pulses. A controllable detuning from the quantum resonance creates an effective accelerating potential in angular momentum space, inducing Bloch-like oscillations of the rotational excitation. These oscillations are measured via the temporal modulation of the...

A pulsed tunable dye laser has been described which can generate intense, highly monochromatic, tunable radiation throughout the visible spectrum. Pumped by a nitrogen laser, it achieves bandwidths of less than 0.004 Angstroms with the help of a diffraction grating in Littrow mount together with an intracavity beam expanding telescope and a tilted Fabry Perot interferometer. [The SCI indicates ...

This paper presents a simple, low-cost, and novel technique for measuring the temporal pulse shape of a nanosecond laser pulse accurately and consistently. The measurement configuration consists of a focusing lens, a tapered rod, and a digital noise filter. Using this setup, the pulsewidth of a nitrogen laser has been determined experimentally. Compared with an unaided measurement configuration...

2014 Spatially resolved spectroscopic diagnostics such as plasma-induced emission, laser-induced fluorescence and laser optogalvanic spectroscopy are used to characterize the cathode sheath and the negative glow of an abnormal glow dc discharge in nitrogen. These diagnostics provide local information on the excitation and ionization functions, on the concentrations of ions and on the rotational...

The short-lived longitudinal plasma oscillations generated during filamentation in argon and nitrogen gas are measured with a specially designed current monitor. The magnitude and initial direction of the corresponding currents depend sensitively on laser polarization and nature of the gas. The results are interpreted as resulting from the competition between two forces acting on free electrons...

The synthesis of five light absorbing triazolobithiophenic thiols, which were utilized for producing self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold surfaces, is presented. The monolayer formation was monitored by cyclic voltammetry, indicating excellent surface coverage. The new triazolobithiophenic compounds exhibited an absorption maximum around 340 nm, which is close to the emission wavelength of ...

The use of femtosecond-laser sources for the diagnostics of combustion and reacting-flow environments requires detailed knowledge of optical dispersive properties of the medium interacting with the laser beams. Here the second- and third-order dispersion values for nitrogen, oxygen, air, carbon dioxide, ethylene, acetylene, and propane within the 700-900 nm range are reported, along with the pr...

The effects of argon laser light on endotracheal tubes and gas mixtures have been studied. In recommended use accidental exposure to red rubber and PVC tubes caused minimal damage. Prolonged exposure of PVC tubing and a 2:1 nitrous oxide:oxygen mixture produced a minimal increase in temperature and no detectable increase in the concentration of higher oxides of nitrogen. Transparent endotrachea...
