This study investigated the acute effects of a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-gamma ligand, ciglitizone, on cell proliferation and intracellular Ca2+ signaling in human normal myometrium and uterine leiomyoma. Changes in intracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) were measured with fura-2 AM, and cellular viabilities were determined by viable cell count and 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-...

background: uterine leiomyoma (ul) is a benign tumor of uterine smooth muscle that affects women in reproductive ages. fas has an important role in initial stages of apoptosis. previous studies have shown an association between the fas gene and tumorigenesis. in the present study, we evaluated the relationship between fas a-670g (rs 1800682) and ul risk. methods: the fas gene polymorphism of 15...

We present the case of a 20 year-old woman with a vulvar mass, found to be a paraurethral leiomyoma. She subsequently underwent supermedial-approach paraurethral mass excision, distal urethral reconstruction and cystourethroscopy. Paraurethral leiomyoma make up approximately five percent of urethral tumors. This case depicts the presentation and treatment of a paraurethral leiomyoma in one of t...

BACKGROUND Selenium has been shown to inhibit cancer development and growth through the mediation of selenium-binding proteins. Decreased expression of selenium-binding protein 1 has been reported in cancers of the prostate, stomach, colon, and lungs. No information, however, is available concerning the roles of selenium-binding protein 1 in uterine leiomyoma. METHODS Using Western Blot analy...

UNLABELLED Progesterone receptor modulators, such as mifepristone are useful and well tolerated in reducing leiomyoma volume although with large individual variation. The objective of this study was to investigate the molecular basis for the observed leiomyoma volume reduction, in response to mifepristone treatment and explore a possible molecular marker for the selective usage of mifepristone ...

Leiomyomas are benign and most common smooth muscle neoplasm that can occur in any organ most commonly in uterus, small bowel and esophagus. A spectrum of histological variants is noted and metaplasia in leiomyoma is very rare, while adipose metaplasia in leiomyoma is commonly noted. We present a case of pure cartilaginous metaplasia in leiomyoma which is a very rare phenomenon.

Esophageal leiomyoma is one of the most common types of benign esophagus tumors. Giant leiomyoma of the esophagus is traditionally treated by open thoracotomy, which has large incision. We report a case of complete thoracoscopic enucleation of giant leiomyoma in a chinese patient.

Leiomyoma is a smooth muscle neoplasm that commonly occurs in the genitourinary system and the gastrointestinal tract of the body. Primary pulmonary leiomyoma is rarely reported in literature. We report a rare case of primary pulmonary leiomyoma of a 55-year-old male patient presenting with symptoms of cough for six months.
