Sometimes people experience pleasant and unpleasant emotions at the same time in a single emotional event. Previous cross-cultural studies indicated that such mixed emotions are more prevalent in China and related to the attitudes toward happiness and individual's regulatory motivation. However, China is a multi-ethnic country and not much is known about subcultural differences in mixed emotion...
We tested whether the abundance of C(4) vegetation in grasslands of the Mongolian plateau is influenced by grazing conditions. The analysis exploited the politically originated contrast that exists between Mongolia (low stocking rate, transhumant system) and the district of Inner Mongolia, China (high stocking rate, sedentary system). We estimated the proportion of C(4) carbon (P(C4)) in grazed...
For the first time the data on helminths in piscivorous birds (the great cormorant and the Mongolian gull) in Mongolia were obtained. Surveys yielded 11 species (Cestoda--2, Trematoda--6, Nematoda--3). The cormorant hosted 5 helminth species, the herring gull--6 species.

AIM Understanding and predicting ecosystem functioning such as biomass accumulation requires an accurate assessment of large-scale patterns of biomass distribution and partitioning in relation to climatic and soil environments. METHODS We sampled above- and belowground biomass from 26 sites spanning 1500 km in Inner Mongolian grasslands, compared the difference in aboveground, belowground bio...
The apparent restriction of the Diego blood factor to the Mongoloid peoples (Leyrisse and Arends, ’56) has provided the anthropologist with a tool of great potential usefulness in the evaluation of populations of mixed origin. In order to use this system to its full advantage, it is necessary to have considerable information on groups whose origin can with considerable certainty be labelled “mo...
