Two probes ( and ) bearing two dansyl fluorophores were synthesized and applied to the detection of mercury(ii) ions in aqueous solution. These probes exhibited a selective response to Hg(2+) in a buffered solution, with high sensitivity and a unique fluorescence response signal which displayed a blue-shift effect in the fluorescence emission peak. The Hg(2+) recognition mechanisms of the probe...

Due to the hazardous nature of mercury ions, the development of a cost effective, sensitive and field-portable sensor is of high significance for both industry and civilian use. In this work, a FRET-based ratiometric sensor for detecting mercury ions in water was fabricated by depositing a multilayered silica structure on a quartz plate. For the preparation of the film-based sensor, a silica su...

The advent of stripping voltammetry has improved the performance of analytical voltammetry to a considerable extent.1 The enhanced sensitivity and lower detection limits can be achieved in this technique by enrichment of the analyte prior to voltammetric determination. The common enrichment processes include reduction of metal ions through formation of metal films or amalgams, reductive or oxid...

Mercury metal dispersed spontaneously into the aqueous solution as micro-droplets when it came in quiescent contact with the solution. The self-dispersion was observed by means of the dynamic light scattering method, thermogravimetry and voltammetry. The mercury microdroplets generated in water had ca. 0.3 m in diameter. The diameter and the concentration of the droplets were stable. The conce...

:\<Iass spectra of letramethyl and tetraethyl lead and of dimethyl, diet llyl, and di-n-butyl mercury were obtained with a Co nsolidated 21102 mass spec trometer. Monoisotopic spectra were calculated by using the isotopic abundance derived from eac h spectrum. A variation in the lead isotope abundance was observed in the commercially available lead a lkyls. No variation was observed a mong t he...

A simple and low cost method was developed and validated for the determination of trace mercury (II) ions in dental-unit wastewater and fertilizer samples. The method was based upon the reaction of mercury (II) ions with the novel reagent 6-hydroxy-3-(2-oxoindolin-3-ylideneamino)-2-thioxo-2H-1,3-thiazin-4(3H)-one, the formed complex shows an absorption maximum at 505 nm (lambda(max)) in Britton...

An automatic microgravimetric screening system based on piezoelectric detection and the use of acidic stannous chloride as reductant was developed for the fast detection and determination of total mercury in water. Reduced mercury is detected as an amalgam by using a gold-coated piezoelectric crystal, the sensor subsequently being regenerated by passing it through a peroxydisulfate solution. Th...

A mercury-sensitive chemically modified graphite paste electrode was constructed by incorporating modified silica gel into a conventional graphite paste electrode. The functional group attached to the (3-chloropropyl) silica gel surface was 2-mercaptoimidazole, giving a new product denoted by 3-(2-thioimidazolyl)propyl silica gel, which is able to complex mercury ions. Mercury was chemically ad...

Reported here is, for the first time, an important study of solvent effect on structural diversity in inorganic-organic mercury(II) complexes. As a result, the first supramolecular isomer in mercury(II) complexes is obtained. Importantly, a previously unobserved in situ generation of both inorganic (Cl(-)) and organic ([CH(3)-L1-CH(3)](2+)) ions was also observed.

The objectives of the present study were to isolate and identify a suitable mercury resistance bacterial strain and to explore their detoxification potentiality of mercury in different environmental conditions. A strain of Streptococcus sp. MTCC 9724 was isolated from the soil of waste dumping site adjacent to East Calcutta wetlands, West Bengal, India. Minimum inhibitory concentration of mercu...
