Optoacoustic imaging relies on the ultrasonic detection of pressure waves created after optical absorption. In this work we demonstrate imaging single red blood cells using an ultrasonic detection system at 200 and 400 MHz. ©2010 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (170.3880) Medical and biological imaging; (350.0350) Other areas of optics
We have developed a system for acquiring three-dimensional dynamic images of small tissue volumes. As a first example we explored the real-time response of changes in optical properties inside a human finger caused by partial occlusion of distal veins. 2002 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (170.0170) Medical optics and biotechnology, (110.0110) Imaging systems, (110.6960) Tomography

We achieve non-degenerate 2-photon excitation (ND2PE) using a pair of IR and NIR beams and show that the emission intensity is proportional to the power of each beam. ND2PE provides an alternative to 3-photon excitation. © 2015 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (170.0170) Medical Optics and Biotechnology; (000.1430) Biology and Medicine
The editors introduce the Biomedical Optics Express feature issue on "Phantoms for the Performance Evaluation and Validation of Optical Medical Imaging Devices." This topic was the focus of a technical workshop that was held on November 7-8, 2011, in Washington, D.C. The feature issue includes 13 contributions from workshop attendees.
In-vivo two-photon imaging of intrinsic fluorescence allows metabolic function to be evaluated on a cellular level. A method of validating, identifying and separating the fluorophores present in an in-vivo two-photon image is described. ©2008 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (170.0170) Medical optics and biotechnology; (110.4234) Multispectral and hyperspectral imaging; (170.2655) Functio...
