To gain insight into how temperature affects locomotory performance, we measured power output of scup red muscle during oscillatory length changes at 10 degrees C and 20 degrees C. When we optimized work loop parameters, we found that maximum power was 27.9 W kg-1 at 20 degrees C and 12.8 W kg-1 at 10 degrees C, giving a Q10 of 2.29. Maximum power was generated at a higher oscillation frequency...

This article presents a novel current-mode universal biquadratic network providing both standard transfer functions. The principal element of proposed network is CCCCTAs. The feature of this network is that the pole frequency quality factor can be orthogonally adjusted via input bias currents. Besides performing as a universal filter, with an appropriate condition, the proposed network can func...

We report the discovery of oscillations at 1122 ± 0.3 Hz in an X-ray burst from the X-ray transient XTE J1739-285. The signal has a peak Leahy power of 42.8 and, after consideration of the number of trials, has a chance probability of occurrence of 4×10 −5 , equivalent to a 4.2σ detection. The oscillation frequency suggests that XTE J1739-285 contains the fastest rotating neutron star yet found...

The summertime Great Plains low-level jet (LLJ) has been the subject of numerous investigations during the past several decades. Characteristics of the LLJ include nighttime development of a pronounced wind maximum of typically 15–20 m s at levels 300–800 m above the surface and a clockwise rotation of the wind maximum during the course of the night. Maximum frequency of occurrence of the LLJ i...

Data on the effect on mucociliary clearance of oral high frequency oscillation is conflicting. By means of a technique to superimpose high frequency oscillation on tidal breathing, changes in mucociliary clearance during high frequency oscillation were studied in seven normal non-smokers by monitoring the clearance of inhaled radiolabelled aerosol from the lungs. After inhalation of 5 microns t...

In this paper, the transient settling dynamics of a spherical particle sedimenting in a linearly stratified fluid is investigated by performing fully resolved direct numerical simulations. The settling behaviour is quantified for different values of Reynolds, Froude and Prandtl numbers. It is demonstrated that the transient settling dynamics is correlated to the induced Lagrangian drift of flow...

In this paper we present a study on the design optimization of voltage-controlled oscillators. The phase noise of LC-type oscillators is basically limited by the quality factor of inductors. It has been experimentally shown that higher-Q inductors can be achieved at higher frequencies while the oscillation frequency is limited by parasitic capacitances. In this paper, the minimum transistor siz...

A fundamental model consisting of charged particles moving in free space exposed to alternating and direct current (ACDC) electromagnetic fields is analyzed. Effects of charged particles initial position and initial velocity to cyclotron resonance frequency are observed. Strong effects are observed revealing that effects of electric and magnetic fields on a charged particle in free space varies...

This paper presents a model for the frequency response of 65 nm RF power CMOS devices as a function of device width. We find that the cut-off frequency (fT) and maximum oscillation frequency (fmax) decrease with increasing device width. Small-signal equivalent circuit extractions reveal that the main reason for the degradation in fT and fmax is the presence of non-scalable parasitic resistances...

The escape from a metastable state over an oscillating barrier of an underdamped Josephson tunnel junction has been experimentally investigated with oscillation frequency well separated from the plasma frequency of the junction. The resonant escape, namely, a minimum of the average escape time as a function of the oscillation frequency, was observed. For the oscillation frequency much smaller t...
