Automatic translation knowledge acquisition or automatic bilingual dictionary construction has become an important first step for natural language applications such as machine translation and cross-language information retrieval. Transliterations are used to translate proper names and technical terms especially from languages in Roman alphabets to languages in non-Roman alphabets such as from E...
The purpose of present study was to investigate predictions of challenge point theory (guadagnoli and lee, 2004) through comparing two group of challenging and nonchallenging games in developing manipulative fundamental movement skills. Thirty 4 to 6 years old child were selected from one of the kindergartens of Tehran and were grouped according to pretest scores. The games were used were desig...
Term transliteration addresses the problem of converting terms in one language into their phonetic equivalents in the other language via spoken form. It is especially concerned with proper nouns, such as personal names, place names and organization names. Pronunciation variation refers to pronunciation ambiguity frequently encountered in spoken language, which has a serious impact on term trans...
We present a method for performing machine transliteration without any parallel resources. We frame the transliteration task as a decipherment problem and show that it is possible to learn cross-language phoneme mapping tables using only monolingual resources. We compare various methods and evaluate their accuracies on a standard name transliteration task.
Machine transliteration is often referred to as phonetic translation. We show that transliterations incorporate information from both spelling and pronunciation, and propose an effective model for joint transliteration generation from both representations. We further generalize this model to include transliterations from other languages, and enhance it with reranking and lexicon features. We de...
Transliteration is defined as phonetic translation of names across languages. Transliteration of Named Entities (NEs) is necessary in many applications, such as machine translation, corpus alignment, cross-language IR, information extraction and automatic lexicon acquisition. All such systems call for high-performance transliteration, which is the focus of shared task in the NEWS 2015 workshop....
Hindi is the lingua-franca of India. Although all non-native speakers can communicate well in Hindi, there are only a few who can read and write in it. In this work, we aim to bridge this gap by building transliteration systems that could transliterate Hindi into at-least 7 other Indian languages. The transliteration systems are developed as a reading aid for non-Hindi readers. The systems are ...
The rapid growth of the Internet has created a tremendous number of multilingual resources. However, language boundaries prevent information sharing and discovery across countries. Proper names play an important role in search queries and knowledge discovery. When foreign names are involved, proper names are often translated phonetically which is referred to as transliteration. In this research...
We present a novel approach to integrate transliteration into Hindi-to-Urdu statistical machine translation. We propose two probabilistic models, based on conditional and joint probability formulations, that are novel solutions to the problem. Our models consider both transliteration and translation when translating a particular Hindi word given the context whereas in previous work transliterat...
