BACKGROUND Evidence of extensive cross-talk between calcium (Ca(2+))- and cAMP-mediated signaling systems suggests that previously reported abnormalities in Ca(2+) homeostasis in bipolar I (BP-I) patients may be linked to disturbances in the function of G proteins that mediate cAMP signaling. METHODS To test this hypothesis, the beta-adrenergic agonist, isoproterenol, and the G protein activa...

Abstract Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is the abnormal differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells in bone marrow into malignant blasts. The leukemic environment plays an important role during disease progression, by shaping immune landscape interacting with these Mounting evidence suggests neutrophils are complicit within tumors enhancing tumorigenesis and immunosuppression; however, little kno...

Herein we describe a case of intraocular melanoma in a17-year old leukemic patient.  The history, histological findings of the enucleated eye, blood and bone marrow of the patient were investigated. The enucleated eye contained epitheloid cell type melanoma instead of leukemic cell infiltration.  We conclude that intraocular malignant melanoma can occur in acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

cultured lymphoblasts required physical contact with responding lymphocytes to induce transformiiation. In quantitative terms, lymphocytes incorporate as much thymidine when, mixed with irradiated cultured lymphoblasts as they (lo in response to l)hytolhenma-glutin1in. The stimulation of lymphocyte transformation by allogeneic cultured lymphoblasts did not parallel the stimulation of lymphocyte ...

In addition to HL-A antigens, another cell surface protein complex has been obtained from membranes of the human B-lymphoblast cell line IM-1. This complex which was solubilized with papain, consisted of polypeptides of 23,000 and 30,000 daltons (p23, 30). Rabbit antisera to this material precipitated from [35S]methionine-labeled detergent-solubilized cells, three proteins of 39,000, 34,000, an...

The motile lymphocyte in vitro has a prominent "tail" that becomes a means of "attachment" to other cells and debris during interaction. The term "uropod" is proposed to designate this specialized cytoplasmic projection which appears totally different, anatomically and functionally, from the pseudopods. Observations of lymphoblasts during mitosis indicate that the uropod is formed immediately f...

Background: Leukemia is one of the most occurring haematological pathologies in world which develops due to impairment hematopoietic machinery. Cellular death via apoptosis severely impaired this pathophysiological condition and leads progression disease. Objective: We have tried unearth efficacy Withanolide D, a steroidal lactone derived from Withania somnifera or Ashwagandha on some apoptotic...

Stimulation with phytohemagglutinin of the leukocytes from six of the seven known individuals with UDP-galactose 4-epimerase (= UDP-glucose 4-epimerase; EC 5.1.3.2) deficiency consistently resulted in the appearance of epimerase activity in the cultured cells. A long-term lymphoblast culture derived from one proband also contained an active epimerase enzyme. A comparison of the properties of th...
