We study the quark-antiquark potential of quenched SU(3) lattice gauge theory with the Lüscher-Weisz action. After blocking the gauge fields with the recently proposed hypercubic transformation we compute the Sommer parameter, extract the lattice spacing a and set the scale at 6 different values of the gauge coupling in a range from a = 0.084 fm to 0.136 fm. where Λ is the physical scale of the theory related to the running coupling αs = αs(Q ) at the scale Q. Since Λ has no expansion in αs, perturbative contributions are present only in W0, which from power counting is quartically divergent in the UV region. The term with the power Λ/Q is absent since there are no gauge invariant operators of dimension two. In the lattice theory all frequencies ar...

We present results of lattice QCD simulations with mass-degenerate up and down and mass-split strange and charm (Nf = 2 + 1 + 1) dynamical quarks using Wilson twisted mass fermions at maximal twist. The tuning of the strange and charm quark masses is performed at two values of the lattice spacing a ≈ 0.078 fm and a ≈ 0.086 fm with lattice sizes ranging from L ≈ 1.9 fm to L ≈ 2.8 fm. We measure ...

Computing resources available for simulations of lattice QCD are now powerful enough to investigate unquenching effects. UKQCD has embarked on a programme of studying these effects in the light hadron spectrum, static quark potential, glueball spectrum and topological sectors. The purpose of this paper is to investigate unquenching effects in the first of these areas. It is well known that the ...

Abstract. In this paper, a Cascaded Lattice Boltzmann Method with second order slip boundary conditions is developed to study gas flows in a microchannel in the slip and transition flow regimes with a wide range of Knudsen numbers. For the first time the effect of wall confinement is considered on the effective mean free path of the gas molecules using a function with nonconstant Bosanquet para...

The domain wall fermion formulation exhibits full chiral symmetry for finite lattice spacing except for the effects of mixing between the domain walls. Close to the continuum limit these symmetry breaking effects should be described by a single residual mass. We determine this mass from the conservation law obeyed by the conserved axial current in quenched simulations with β = 5.7 and 6.0 and d...

We give an overview of recent work on charge degrees of freedom of strongly correlated electrons on geometrically frustrated lattices. Special attention is paid to the checkerboard lattice, i.e., the two-dimensional version of a pyrochlore lattice and to the kagomé lattice. For the checkerboard lattice it is shown that at half filling when spin degrees of freedom are neglected and at quarter f...

The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) was used to analyze two-dimensional (2D) non-Fourier heat conduction with temperature-dependent thermal conductivity. To this end, the evolution of wave-like temperature distributions in a 2D plate was obtained. The temperature distributions along certain parts of the plate, which was subjected to heat generation and constant thermal conductivity condit...

The kaon B parameter is one of the crucial hadron weak matrix elements for constraining the CP violation phase of the Cabibbo-KobayashiMaskawa matrix from experiments. A pioneering study was carried out by Gupta, Kilcup, Patel and Sharpe (GKPS)[1–3], which laid a foundation for a lattice QCD determination of this quantity with the Kogut-Susskind quark action. A number of problems, however, are ...
