Abstract Natural language does not express all connectives definable in classical logic as simple lexical items. Coordination English is expressed by conjunction and , disjunction or negated nor . Other languages pattern similarly. Non-lexicalized are typically compositionally: English, combining negation ( both ). We enrich concept-forming operators in L-rough Concept Analysis with linguistic hedges which model semantics of logical connectives ‘very’ and ‘slightly’. Using hedges as parameters for the concept-forming operators we are allowed to modify our uncertainty when forming concepts. As a consequence, by selection of these hedges we can control the size of concept lattice.

This article shows how the automatic disambiguation of discourse connectives can improve Statistical Machine Translation (SMT) from English to French. Connectives are firstly disambiguated in terms of the discourse relation they signal between segments. Several classifiers trained using syntactic and semantic features reach stateof-the-art performance, with F1 scores of 0.6 to 0.8 over thirteen...

We present an implemented procedure to select an appropriate connective to link two propositions, which is part of a large text generation system. Each connective is defined as a set of constraints between features of flxe propositions it connects. Ore' focus has been to identify pragmatic features flint can be produced by a deep generator to provide a simple representation of connectives. Usin...

The paper introduces a new annotation of discourse relations in the Prague Dependency Treebank (PDT), i.e. the annotation of the so called secondary connectives (mainly multiword phrases like the condition is, that is the reason why, to conclude, this means etc.). Firstly, the paper concentrates on theoretical introduction of these expressions (mainly with respect to primary connectives like an...
